Primary objective
Provide strategic whole-of-government leadership and coordination to support the Chief Minister and Cabinet, ensuring
effective implementation and delivery of government policies and objectives to reduce crime, rebuild the economy and
restore the Northern Territory’s (NT) lifestyle, across the Top End region.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide evidence-based analysis and accurate, high-level advice on priorities and issues of regional and NT significance,
prepare Cabinet and Ministerial correspondence, and lead the development of projects.
2. Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of regional economic development strategies and action plans
aligned with government policies and objectives, collaborating with relevant partners.
3. Lead and coordinate the implementation and delivery of government policies and objectives and provide lead agency
direction to government agencies, fostering cross-agency collaboration.
4. Support and coordinate whole-of-government business through the Regional Coordination Committee and represent the
lead agency at meetings and forums including the demonstrated ability to maintain strict protocols and confidence.
5. Build and maintain strategic and collaborative relationships with the three tiers of government, Traditional Owners, peak
bodies and industry and service provider networks and maintain an effective regional network.
6. Support the Department’s emergency recovery responsibilities including participation on Local Emergency Committees,
implementing Recovery Action Plans and coordinating recovery efforts of NT, local and Commonwealth government
agencies.
7. Ability to undertake regional and remote travel as required, including time away from your nominal location.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated strategic and innovative thinking, with experience providing high level advice, leading solution on
emerging issues and facilitating the delivery of regional economic outcomes.
2. Demonstrated experience in Cabinet and Ministerial processes and high-level written, oral, and interpersonal
communication skills, with the abilities to influence, negotiate, collaborate, and build and maintain strategic and
collaborative relationships the three tiers of government and key stakeholders.
3. Demonstrated high-level of political awareness, sensitivity, and judgement, combined with demonstrated experience in
working from a whole-of-government perspective, and demonstrated understanding of government policies and
objectives and experience in economic development.
4. High-level organisational and coordination skills including the ability to work autonomously under pressure, prioritising
workloads and maintaining flexibility and agility.
5. Demonstrated experience in supporting emergency response or recovery functions, including the coordination of muti-
agency efforts.
6. Well-developed cross-cultural competency skills together with knowledge of contemporary issues affecting people in
urban, regional, and remote areas of the Top End of the Northern Territory.
7. A current 'C' Class driver’s licence, or ability to obtain, with a willingness to travel in remote areas.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Top End region, including its communities, cultural contexts and economic drivers.
2. Formal qualification in a relevant field or demonstrated experience.
