About the Opportunity
Preferably based in Cairns, though applications for a Perth-based applications will also be considered. The Category Specialist for Austal (ISS) is responsible for managing supply chain activities across designated categories to ensure service requirements are met and value for money is delivered. Will act as the category subject matter expert, building strong supplier relationships, monitoring market conditions, leading commercial discussions, developing category plans, negotiating fit for purpose contracts, and supporting compliance with procurement frameworks to strengthen supplier performance and business outcomes

What’s Involved
- Developing and implementing category strategies.

Conducting supply market analysis.

Driving value creation and cost optimisation initiatives.

Managing supplier performance and continuous improvement activities.
- Act as the primary commercial interface between the business and suppliers within assigned categories.

Undertake other duties and projects commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the position, as reasonably directed by the direct line manager
You’ll Need
Essential Requirements
-
Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Commerce, Law or related discipline, or equivalent experience

Experience using ERP (preferable IFS, SAP, Oracle or similar)

Ability to analyse procurement data and develop a supplier engagement strategy that delivers sustainable procurement practise

Excellent influencing and negotiation skills

Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills
-
Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
Desirable Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in category management, strategic sourcing, procurement or commercial management roles

CIPS Qualified
-
Experience in the Defence or Maritime/Shipbuilding industry, or experience in working with ASDEFCON contracts
