Primary objective
Lead and supervise a team of Family youth support staff in the delivery of statutory and non-statutory welfare services to individuals,
groups, and communities in accord with relevant legislation, and Department of Children and Families policies and procedures.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Be responsible for the supervision, training and development of a team of staff involved in the delivery of statutory and non-statutory

services under the Family Youth support program.
2. Maintain a high level of services to the Department of Children and Families clients through the provision of professional expertise

and demonstrated best practice in the delivery of youth and family support services.
3. Provide guidance and leadership to staff in the team to ensure the delivery of high-quality services that includes assessment,

intervention, casework and case management, in accordance with legislative, public sector and departmental policies, procedures and
standards.

4. Monitor reporting and data integrity to ensure the availability of reliable data and information through the accurate and timely
recording on case management systems and other documentation and data entry as required.

5. Participate in compulsory training and operate compliantly with the Public Sector Employment and Management Act, code of conduct,
the Youth Justice Act, Care and Protection Act, the Domestic and Family Act and any other relevant legislation, policy and frameworks
to maintain current practice knowledge and ensure adherence to statutory requirements and departmental policies.

6. Ensure the Manager is informed and updated regarding pertinent case management issues, including providing recommendations to
the Manager to address or resolve these.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge of cultural issues, including social, economic and political issues, affecting the delivery of welfare and justice

services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
2. Extensive experience commensurate with the duties of the position, including highly developed professional skills in conducting

strength-based assessments, developing and delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to apply best practice
principles.

3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting, including demonstrated skills in negotiation, conflict
resolution, teamwork and leadership.

4. Highly developed organisational and communication skills including the ability to work independently, manage time effectively and
contribute to the professional development and learning needs of colleagues through developing and delivering formal and informal
training for staff.

5. Highly developed oral and written communication skills including an ability to communicate complex issues to a wide range of people
and groups.

6. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively, accept responsibility; contribute to ongoing quality assurance;
program development; and professional development.

Desirable
1. Diploma or Certificate IV in Community Services, Social Work or related discipline.
2. In the order of five years relevant experience that includes working with complex families experiencing challenging behaviours.
3. Relevant formal training in a discipline relevant to child and family support services, supervision, cross cultural awareness and public

administration.

the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and
Family Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection) or Graduate
Certificate in Safe Communities (Child Protection).
