Primary objective
Assist the Alice Springs Social Work Manager in the management, coordination and delivery of a high quality, culturally appropriate
effective, efficient and contemporary Social Work assessment and intervention service, meeting the needs of Alice Springs Hospital
inpatients and outpatients, their families and significant others.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate Social Work services within a multidisciplinary framework.
2. Provide expert advice on program and clinical issues within Social Work.
3. Provide leadership, supervision, mentorship and education to staff and students.
4. Ensure best possible work performance through effective implementation of Work Partnership Plans (WPP) including the provision
of professional supervision and promotion of learning.
5. Initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local or regional level to
ensure delivery of contemporary Social Work services.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary team leadership practices and role modelling behaviour in accordance with
the TEHS Organisational Culture Charter
8. Promote effective and efficient Social Work services within Department of Health and Community Services in Central Australia
through consultation and advice to managers, professional support for Social Workers in solos positions and participations in
recruitment processes as appropriate.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant qualifications in Social Work that meets membership eligibility requirements of the Australian Association of Social Workers
(AASW).
2. Extensive post graduate experience in providing contemporary high level clinical Social Work services to patients and families/carers.
3. Extensive postgraduate experience working in and leading teams within a hospital social work setting and demonstrated ability to
facilitate and support team functioning in a pressured environment.
4. Proven ability to independently plan and priorities a high-volume complex workload within an ever-changing work environment.
5. Extensive experience in clinical supervision of students and staff and a commitment to professional development.
6. Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with patients and
families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
7. Proven high-level communication and interpersonal skills, including well developed negotiation and conflict management skills, with
significant experience working in a team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.
8. Proven ability to initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.
9. Demonstrated high level leadership skills with capacity to provide leadership in a team environment.
10. Willingness to participate in after-hours Social Work Services (Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday).
Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in clinical education, leadership/management or speciality practice area
