About the Role
As a proudly Aboriginal ‘owned and operated’ organisation, WLALC is inviting a visionary leader to join our leadership team. This is more than a management position; it is an opportunity to anchor and elevate a culturally safe, inclusive, and vibrant community sanctuary. We’re relying on you to be the ‘architect’ of a space that empowers individuals and families for generations, with a persistent focus on our Youth and the critical work of early intervention and prevention. We are looking for a high-impact professional to take ownership of the following strategic priorities:

Cultivating a Sanctuary: Transform our community space into a vibrant, safe, and welcoming haven, acting as a distinguished role model and a trusted bridge for our people.
Fiscal Stewardship and Sustainability: Take full end-to-end ownership of the grant lifecycle—identifying, securing, and flawlessly acquitting funds to insulate the Council’s capital.
Build a self-sustaining financial platform by optimizing grant acquisitions and activating diverse revenue streams, such as facility hire and service-provider engagements, ensuring the centres long-term independence.

Service Integration & Resource Advocacy: Champion a holistic "One-Stop" service model by securing essential everyday life resources for the community while simultaneously embedding tier-one external partners—such as GPs, Legal Aid, Hunter New England Health, and NDIS specialists—to deliver critical, on-site services that are accessible and culturally centred.
Crisis & Resilience Navigation: Facilitate access and support for youth and families navigating complex challenges, such as trauma, social isolation, and systemic disengagement.
As both a frontline advocate and a strategic informant, you will manage workload sustainability by effectively bridging community needs with specialized on-site and off-site services.

Collaborative Leadership: Working closely with the CEO to build and maintain powerful alliances with the WLALC Board, Elders, and key partners such as Port Stephens Hunter Police, Local Council, and premier Health and Educational institutions and other key stakeholders and like-minded service providers.
Grassroots Innovation: Source, facilitate, and promote the delivery of community-led programs that foster deep resilience, essential life skills, and lasting wellbeing.

Elite Communication: You are a master of connecting—equally comfortable and effective with mentoring a teen, comforting an elder, or negotiating with a senior government official.
Professional Expertise: You bring a minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in community coordination, social services, or leadership, with a track record of tangible results.

Essential Requirements:

A current NSW Driver’s Licence: Required for transport and identity verification.
A current Working with Children Check (WWCC): Mandatory for child-related roles; involves a background check through the Office of the Children's Guardian.
A current First Aid Certification: Specifically HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid); must be renewed every three years.
A National Police Check: A summary of your history in Australia. Most employers require a "Standard Disclosure" that has been issued within the last 6 to 12 months. You can apply for this online through the NSW Police Force or an ACIC-accredited provider.

The successful candidate will need to provide a Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or Confirmation of Membership from a Local Aboriginal Land Council
