Selection Criteria

SC1: Demonstrated experience in human resources administration.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and administer human resource processes, including recruitment, onboarding, employment contracts, position management, payroll-related administration, staff records and compliance with Department of Education policies and procedures.

SC2: Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills.
Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, maintain accurate records and exercise attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment.

SC3: Demonstrated knowledge of confidentiality, compliance and HR systems.
Demonstrated understanding of the importance of confidentiality, privacy and professional integrity when managing employee information. Experience using HR and payroll systems, such as EduPay, Recruitment Online, CASES21 or similar systems, is highly desirable.

SC4: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and use initiative.
Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, exercise sound judgement, identify solutions to administrative issues and contribute to continuous improvement of HR processes and school operations.

Role

The Human Resources Officer provides comprehensive human resource and administrative support to the school, ensuring the effective delivery of recruitment, onboarding, employment administration and workforce management processes. The role supports school leadership by coordinating a range of HR functions in accordance with Department of Education policies, procedures and industrial agreements.

The position is responsible for managing recruitment and selection processes, employment contracts, staff appointments, payroll-related administration, employee records and compliance requirements. The Human Resources Officer works closely with the Principal, Business Manager, leadership team, Schools People Services and Department of Education stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate HR service delivery.

Working collaboratively with teaching staff, education support staff and external stakeholders, the Human Resources Officer contributes to the efficient operation of the school by maintaining accurate records, providing high-quality customer service, safeguarding confidentiality, and supporting a positive workplace culture. The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic school environment.

Responsibilities

The Human Resources Officer will be responsible for:
Providing administrative support for recruitment and selection processes, including preparing vacancy documentation, scheduling interviews and maintaining recruitment records.
Assisting with the preparation of employment contracts, letters of appointment and other employment-related documentation.
Processing employment changes, contract extensions, leave documentation and staff appointments through Department of Education systems, including EduPay and Recruitment Online.
Maintaining accurate and confidential employee records and personnel files in accordance with Department policies and privacy requirements.
Assisting with onboarding and induction processes for new employees, ensuring required documentation and compliance checks are completed.
Monitoring employment compliance requirements, including Working with Children Checks, VIT registration, mandatory training and fixed-term contract expiry dates.
Responding to routine HR enquiries from staff and directing more complex matters to the Principal, Business Manager or Schools People Services as appropriate.
Assisting with payroll administration by preparing and processing employment-related documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
Preparing routine correspondence, reports and HR documentation as required.
Liaising professionally with staff, applicants, Schools People Services and other Department stakeholders to support effective HR service delivery.
Providing general administrative support to the Business Manager and leadership team.
Maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive employee information.
Undertaking other duties consistent with the responsibilities and classification of an Education Support Level 1 Range 3 position, as directed by the Principal or Business Manager.
