About the Role
As a key member of the Process Control team, you will provide frontline control engineering support while driving system performance, reliability, and innovation. This is a hands-on role where your expertise will directly impact operational efficiency, safety outcomes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver safe, reliable, and effective operation and maintenance of site-wide process control systems
Provide frontline engineering support to maintenance, production, and engineering teams
Execute preventative maintenance, system checks, audits, and software/hardware updates
Lead troubleshooting activities and contribute to root cause analysis and incident investigations
Manage and implement change within control systems, ensuring compliance with governance processes
Identify, develop, and deliver minor improvement and capital projects
Monitor and enhance system performance to optimise plant operations
Maintain the integrity and security of control systems, including cyber security measures
Coach and mentor site personnel on control systems and best practices
Collaborate across departments to align automation systems with operational requirements
Champion a strong safety-first culture and actively support site safety initiatives
Support team development through coaching, mentoring, and performance management
Foster a collaborative, team-based culture across employees, departments, and contractors
Contribute to budgets, schedules, and operational planning
About You
You’re a proactive and technically strong control systems professional who thrives in a dynamic, operational environment. You bring a balance of hands-on expertise, problem-solving capability, and leadership. You will also have:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining or heavy industry
Electrical/Instrument trade with automation experience, or
Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Process Engineering, or Mechatronics
Yokogawa Centum VP DCS
Rockwell PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix)
SCADA systems (FactoryTalk View, GE iFIX)
Industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC, etc.)
Historian systems (Aveva PI)
Active Directory and basic Cisco networking
Solid skills in Microsoft Office and SAP
About Telfer Operations
Telfer is a long-life gold-copper mine in the Paterson Province of Western Australia’s East Pilbara region. The operation includes both open-pit and underground mining and Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since commencing production in 1975, Telfer has produced over 15 million ounces of gold. The site operates on a fly-in fly-out basis and offers a wide range of onsite recreational facilities to support workforce wellbeing.
