About the team – Advanced Analytics
The Advanced Analytics team manages some of Australia's largest data assets, providing valuable insights and support to our highly skilled intelligence analysts. Our team is at the forefront of data analytics-led risk-based regulation, using strong data modelling, integration and engineering practices to extract meaningful information from vast amounts of data.
Join our team as a Senior Data Engineer and be a part of shaping the future of intelligence capabilities by building trusted data models, pipelines and analytics products that support regulatory decision-making.
Responsibilities include:
Build and Maintain Data Models and Business Critical Intelligence Systems: Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of data models and Intelligence systems to support data management needs.
Establish Data Pipelines: Develop scalable data pipelines for automating data extraction from internal and external sources, ensuring seamless data integration and reliable data modelling outcomes.
Apply Regulatory Business Knowledge: Leverage regulatory insights in government licensing, building and construction, and regulatory intelligence data to inform data models and analytics products.
- Ensure Data Quality and Governance: Implement data quality and governance practices to maintain data integrity and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Collaborate Across Functions: Work with stakeholders across the organisation to understand data requirements and deliver solutions, translating complex data concepts for varied audiences.
Key challenges:

Juggling a multitude of development tasks, user expectations, and software updates, while steadfastly ensuring the highest quality of application performance and user experience.

Seamlessly integrating the latest technological advancements and platforms into the team's data models and applications, ensuring smooth transitions and upgrades without disrupting ongoing analytics.

Effectively communicating complex technical aspects of data models, pipelines and applications to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding while managing expectations.
To be successful in this role you will have:

Strong data modelling capability: Proven experience designing, building and maintaining robust data models that turn complex source data into trusted analytics products.

Intimate knowledge of Medallion architecture: Deep practical understanding of Bronze, Silver and Gold layers, including how to structure, govern and optimise data across each stage.

Stakeholder engagement: Ability to learn the business context quickly, work closely with analysts, investigators and business stakeholders, and translate their needs into practical data solutions.Cloud and engineering skills: Strong working knowledge of Azure-based data platforms, including Databricks, DevOps, Function App and Web App, supported by solid Python, SQL and data integration skills.
