About the role
The Public Health team plays a vital role in protecting and enhancing the health, safety and wellbeing of our diverse and growing community. Due to a vacancy within the team, an exciting opportunity has become available for an Environmental Health Officer to join the City of Greater Dandenong.
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of key public and environmental health services across the municipality. Working within a dynamic and customer-focused team, you will undertake inspections, investigations, education, compliance and enforcement activities to ensure adherence to relevant legislation and promote positive public health outcomes.
This varied role will see you responding to customer requests, investigating public health concerns, partnering with businesses and community members, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the Public Health unit. Through your work, you will help create a safer, healthier and more liveable municipality for residents, visitors and businesses.
About you
You are a motivated and customer-focused professional with a strong understanding of environmental and public health principles and legislation. You are confident in applying a balanced regulatory approach, combining education, collaboration and enforcement to achieve positive outcomes for the community.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Experience in environmental health, public health, regulatory services or a related field.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Food Act, Public Health and Wellbeing Act, and associated regulations.
- Strong inspection, investigation and compliance skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement and make evidence-based decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and build productive relationships with businesses, residents and colleagues.
- Well-developed written communication skills, including the preparation of reports, notices and regulatory documentation.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to customer requests.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to working as part of a high-performing team.
- A professional, ethical and customer-centric attitude, with a commitment to delivering quality public health outcomes.
- Flexibility to participate in after-hours or on-call activities as required.
