Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, we are seeking an experienced construction estimator to join our company team and play a key role in the successful planning, costing and delivery of our construction projects.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with Construction Managers, Architects, Engineers, Surveyors, subcontractors and suppliers while contributing to high-value commercial projects throughout Victoria.
The Role
Reporting directly to the construction manager, the construction estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, project budgets and construction cost analyses from concept through to contract award.
The successful candidate will assist with project planning, technical assessment and commercial evaluation to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed construction cost estimates, pricing schedules.
- Review and interpret architectural drawings, engineering plans, specifications, contracts, regulations and building codes.
- Calculate project costs including labour, materials, plant, subcontractors, equipment and overhead expenses.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQs), quantity take-offs and project cost breakdowns.
- Analyse documentation and identify project risks, opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotations and validate pricing.
- Assist Construction Manager, Architects and Surveyors in project planning and organisation.
- Coordinate works programs and assist with estimating project timeframes and resource requirements.
- Conduct site inspections and assess project requirements, construction methodologies and compliance obligations.
- Review work and materials to ensure compliance with specifications, regulations, standards and project requirements.
- Prepare, revise and maintain project documentation, drawings, specifications, schedules and reports.
- Perform routine computations, data analysis and cost modelling to support project planning and commercial decisions.
- Contribute to value engineering initiatives and continuous improvement of estimating systems and procedures.
- Support project handovers to delivery teams.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Minimum 2 years' relevant experience as a Construction Estimator or in a closely related role.
- Demonstrated experience preparing detailed cost estimates and project budgets.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience preparing quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent knowledge of construction materials, methodologies and project costing principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using estimating software.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage effectively with suppliers, subcontractors, consultants and project teams.
Desirable
- Experience estimating commercial, Residential, civil projects.
- Knowledge of contract administration and procurement processes.
- Current Victorian Driver Licence.
