With a growing pipeline of major transmission and substation projects across Australia, we are looking for a Senior Primary Design Engineer who wants to work on the infrastructure that will underpin the nation's energy future.
In this role, you'll take ownership of high-voltage primary designs on complex power projects, leading technical solutions from early-stage concept design through to detailed engineering and construction delivery. You'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, providing specialist expertise across HV/EHV substations, AIS/GIS switchgear, busbars, cables, earthing systems and transmission infrastructure.

Leading the primary design and development of HV primary systems (typically 132kV–330kV+)
Providing technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams and foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
Developing and validating primary designs and resolving technical challenges to meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements
Development of detailed primary design deliverables and technical documentation for substations including layout designs, clearance studies, earthing systems, selection and specifications of primary plant equipment including transformers, HV/EHV switchgear, surge arresters, and busbar systems (including busbar sizing), short circuit forces calculations, lightning protection and studies.
Coordinating with civil, structural, and secondary disciplines to deliver integrated design outcomes, and Liaise with clients and stakeholders.
Leading the resolution of complex technical issues, balancing cost, time, and quality constraints
Driving design optimisation, constructability, and innovative engineering solutions
How you can support CoMade
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
Proven extensive experience in HV primary design, with a focus on substation design (132kV+ preferred)
Strong substation and transmission project exposure
General engineering understanding of CAD software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD or REVIT
Solid understanding of international standards, grid compliance, and industry best practices, ensuring compliance with AS/NZS standards, IEC frameworks and NSP/TNSP requirements
Experience in engineering consultancies.
Chartered (or working towards) highly regarded
