About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint two Radio Frequency (RF) Engineers to join the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)at the University of Sydney. In this role, you will work closely with industry partners to design and develop WiFi RF circuits, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in wireless communications.
The Telecommunication research area within the School of ECE has an established international reputation in wireless communications and signal processing, comprising five IEEE Fellows, several research fellows, and more than 50 postgraduate students. The University of Sydney is ranked 13th globally in Telecommunications in the recent Shanghai subject rankings, providing a highly collaborative and innovative research environment.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
design and develop RF and analogue integrated circuit blocks such as power amplifiers, LNAs, and front-end modules
perform schematic design, simulation, and optimisation at transistor level using industry-standard EDA tools
conduct post-layout verification and support tape-out activities
participate in measurement and characterisation of fabricated ICs, including on-wafer testing
contribute to practical IC design methodologies and workflow development
collaborate with internal research teams and external industry partners to deliver project outcomes
manage competing deadlines and contribute to multiple concurrent projector
About you
postgraduate qualification in electrical engineering, microelectronics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
proven experience in RF or analogue IC design
strong understanding of transistor-level circuit design and RF fundamentals
experience with circuit simulation tools such as Cadence, ADS, or similar
familiarity with CMOS or BiCMOS technologies
ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Preferred experience includes:
experience in power amplifier, LNA, or RF front-end design
exposure to RF measurement techniques such as load-pull and S-parameter characterisation
experience with IC layout and awareness of parasitic effects
prior tape-out or silicon validation experience
experience working with industry partners or within an IC design environment
Appointment will be made at either HEO 7 or HEO 8 classification level depending on the candidate’s profile and experience.
