The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 (Practice Change and Leadership Innovation) who is passionate about advancing nursing practice, supporting clinical excellence, and driving positive change across healthcare services. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nursing leader to influence best practice, mentor staff, and make a lasting impact on patient outcomes.

As an expert nurse, you will provide professional leadership, specialist advice, and evidence-based recommendations on all aspects of nursing practice, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of care. You will play a key role in developing and implementing policies, guiding practice improvement initiatives, and contributing to education, research, and innovation within the service. Working closely with nursing and midwifery staff, you will provide clinical supervision, support professional development, and lead by example through the regular provision of high-quality clinical care.

What you will bring to the role

Current registration with AHPRA - Division 1 Registered Nurse.
Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in Mental Health Nursing and post graduate qualifications in Mental Health or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the Health Service.
Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence-based research.
Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
Understanding of the recovery philosophy and trauma informed care in Mental Health with the ability to implement these in clinical practice.
A current drivers' license, including P1 or above, and willingness to use same as required for the position.
