Mount Isa Mines are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Laboratory Assistant to join our Metallurgical Operations Technical Services team. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor through the Leading Hand, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality sample preparation and laboratory analysis to support operational and metallurgical requirements.
Role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a 4 day/ 4 night shift roster or options for Day shift only!

About the role
This position is responsible for preparing and analysing a range of metallurgical samples while ensuring sample integrity, quality standards and laboratory QA/QC protocols are maintained. Working within a fast-paced laboratory environment, you will contribute to the delivery of accurate and timely analytical results while supporting a strong safety culture.
Key responsibilities:
Conduct sample preparation activities including sample collection, logging, drying, splitting and milling while maintaining sample integrity.
Perform laboratory analyses and deliver accurate analytical results in a timely manner.
Adhere to laboratory QA/QC procedures and quality standards.
Actively participate in Safe Start meetings and maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Communicate laboratory workloads effectively during shift handovers.
Assist with training and supporting laboratory team members in laboratory procedures and protocols.
Support higher-level analytical work as required.
Maintain professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.

You are a reliable team player with a strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement. You enjoy working in a hands-on environment and can manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
We are looking for:
Experience in metallurgical sample preparation or the ability to learn quickly.
Experience working within a laboratory environment desirable or part of a team
Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel - basic level is great
Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), or the ability to learn.
Understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) principles – Safety Conscious
