About the Role:
Working closely with the Coordinator Civil Infrastructure the Civil Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer provides engineering oversight of civil maintenance activities while actively managing contractor performance to drive improved customer service, service quality and outcomes across the civil asset network.
The role provides dedicated technical leadership across planned, reactive and cyclic maintenance programs, validating contractor outputs against contractual standards, specifications and key performance indicators. This includes undertaking inspections, technical assessments and quality assurance activities to ensure works are compliant, fit for purpose and supported by audit‑ready documentation.
You will be responsible for:
- Provide technical expertise and oversight for planned, reactive and cyclic civil maintenance programs to ensure maintenance activities are engineered, prioritised and delivered in accordance with Council standards, contractual requirements and service expectations.
- Ensure full compliance with Council’s Road Management Plan (RMP), including inspection regimes, defect identification, categorisation, rectification timeframes and reporting to reduce statutory and compliance risk.
- Monitor and managing contractor performance and support contract administration activities, including performance reviews, non‑conformance management and risk identification.
- Support contract administration activities in collaboration with the Coordinator Civil Infrastructure, including performance reviews, non‑conformance management, risk identification and documentation to ensure effective oversight across multiple maintenance contracts.
- Contribute to asset lifecycle planning, renewal strategies and evidence‑based prioritisation using inspection outcomes and performance data to improve long‑term asset condition, service consistency and community outcomes.
- Support Council’s customer experience objectives by investigating and responding to customer requests and infrastructure-related enquiries, ensuring issues are addressed professionally, accurately and within agreed service levels to achieve positive community outcomes.
Key Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:
- Degree qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in civil maintenance programs, contractor oversight and quality assurance, preferably within a local government or regulated environment.
- Experience working with road, drainage and civil asset networks and applying relevant standards, specifications and management plans.
- Strong customer service skills, including the ability to respond to customer enquiries professionally, manage expectations, and deliver positive outcomes for the community and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of RMP obligations and inspection frameworks is highly desirable.
- Sound knowledge of contract management principles, including performance monitoring, KPIs, non‑conformance management and documentation requirements.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, drawings, specifications and contractual conditions.
Mandatory pre-employment requirements:
- Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check.
