Job summary
In this role, you will be a key part of Gemba’s Data & Analytics team, collaborating closely with our Strategy and Insights teams to design, build and deliver data solutions that drive commercial and operational outcomes for clients across sport and entertainment.

If you have 3-5 years of experience in data/analytics engineering, technical skills in Cloud (Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Fabric and Azure desirable), Python, and SQL, and an ability to work a fast-paced environment with diverse data sets, then look no further.

About the Role
You will be working within Gemba’s Data & Analytics team. You will be responsible for applying your technical and analytical skills to work with a variety of data sources, streamline processes, build robust data warehouses/lakes, implement ETL pipelines, and deliver best practice data engineering that drives commercial outcomes for our clients.
The role sits at the intersection of data engineering and analytics delivery: building reliable data infrastructure, shaping analysis-ready datasets, and helping turn complex data into practical outputs that inform client decisions.
Key Accountabilities
- Consult with clients to understand their business challenges and design data engineering solutions to meet their needs
- Extract and store data from multiple sources, build scalable data pipelines and warehouses, and develop technical data solutions
- Design and maintain practical data models, curated datasets and data marts that support analytics, reporting, dashboarding and client decision-making
- Support the development of visualisations/dashboards and reports
- Identify opportunities for automated data solutions which reduce manual processes
- Help to develop and maintain high quality datasets to meet user requirements
- Scope and develop best practice recommendations for data technology, integrations, and architecture
- Oversee and manage Gemba’s internal data tech stack including GCP, Power BI, dbt and GitHub
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI, automation and emerging technologies to improve data workflows, analytical processes and client outcomes
- Leverage Gemba’s first and third-party data to develop digital and analytics products
- Assist with the analyses of various datasets to help uncover trends and develop data assets
- Support the Strategy, Insights, Sponsorship & Client Management teams with ad-hoc analyses and data modelling
Who are we looking for?
This key role requires a Data/Analytics Engineer with 3-5 years of experience (experience in the sports industry is a bonus) with a focus on delivering both internal and client solutions. Possessing technical skills in areas such as Python, SQL, BI tools, as well as experience with Cloud technologies, including Azure / Microsoft Fabric is mandatory. Experience with other Cloud technologies and platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS) is highly regarded.
Additionally, you’ll require a good understanding of general business principles, with relevant tertiary qualifications in IT, statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or similar preferred.
Additional skills and experience required include:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Advanced data manipulation and processing skills
- Data pipeline and orchestration tooling such as dbt, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and/or Airflow
- Experience designing robust data models, including relational database structures, data marts and curated datasets that support analytics, reporting and client use cases
- Strong understanding of relational database architecture
- Strong understanding of data quality control measures
- The ability to understand and interpret business/marketing information and research
- Being confident in dealing with clients including presenting report findings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver key insights
- Experience with research survey data and/or digital marketing automation platforms is an advantage
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development, analytics and automation tools to improve data engineering workflows, productivity and client outcomes.
- A technology-agnostic mindset, with curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, platforms and approaches as client and project needs evolve
