Primary objective
As part of the Legal, FOI and Privacy Services unit, provide the CEO of NT Health, its divisions and regional health services with
high quality legal, FOI and privacy services across all areas.

Context statement
The Legal, FOI and Privacy Services unit provides the Office of the CEO and the Department with legal advice and support in
relation to a wide variety of legal matters including commercial agreements, administrative law, mental health, public and
environmental health, coronial inquests, litigated matters, resolution of complaints and minor claims, and performs administrative
functions in relation to FOI and Privacy matters. The unit provides input as required to internal working groups, educational
presentations, policies, procedures and guidelines, and prepares Departmental instruments. This position will provide legal advice,
support and representation across all areas as required.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide general legal advice, support, services and legal representation across the areas of law administered by the Department

and in collaboration with the Solicitor for the Northern Territory and external legal service providers in the case management
of complex and sensitive outsourced matters.

2. Provide timely, high level service to clients including priority advices (verbal or written), agreements, correspondence, review
of reports, and preparation of other materials for litigated and coronial matters in a complex, high volume practice.

3. Maintain a high level of knowledge in the relevant areas of law and of relevant Departmental practices and procedures.
4. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare and present legal concepts, positions or factual analyses clearly

and correctly.
5. Represent NT Health, liaise with client divisions and deal with people and issues in a professional manner.
6. Organise work so as to manage priorities effectively and meet deadlines.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Admission as an Australian legal practitioner and eligibility to obtain a local practising certificate.
2. Experience in the practice of law in relevant fields.
3. Demonstrated ability to organise and manage work in a high volume, general or broad legal practice with a variety of needs.
4. Ability to interpret and apply Northern Territory legislation.
5. Ability to negotiate effectively and to communicate in a professional manner.
6. Ability to cope with pressure and to work as part of a team.

Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Territory, its laws, the workings of government, the application of legal policy in a practical way, and

experience corresponding with Ministerial, CEO and senior public service personnel.
2. Experience in the provision of paralegal support to a high volume general legal practice.
