An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Aboriginal Health Strategy Directorate as an Aboriginal Career Pathway Coordinator. This role will coordinate and support Aboriginal workforce pathway programs across Western Sydney Local Health District, creating opportunities that strengthen recruitment, workforce development and career progression for Aboriginal people.

Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is committed to building a strong, culturally safe and inclusive workforce that reflects and supports the diverse communities we serve. Based at the Tallowood Building, Mount Druitt Hospital campus, this role sits within the Aboriginal Workforce team and plays a key part in shaping future Aboriginal talent across clinical and non-clinical professions.

Working alongside passionate professionals, education providers and community stakeholders, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting Aboriginal students and employees to achieve their career aspirations while helping grow a sustainable Aboriginal workforce across the District.

What you'll be doing

As the Aboriginal Career Pathway Coordinator, you will coordinate and support Aboriginal employment, education and workforce initiatives that strengthen career pathways across WSLHD. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will help deliver programs that create opportunities for Aboriginal students, trainees, cadets and employees while fostering engagement, development and wellbeing.

Coordinate Aboriginal cadetship, internship, apprenticeship and traineeship programs across the District
Collaborate with service leaders, educators, schools, universities, TAFEs and community partners to develop and enhance culturally safe career pathways
Support participants to achieve learning, education and career development goals through effective program coordination and stakeholder engagement
Lead communication, promotion and engagement activities that increase participation in Aboriginal workforce initiatives
Drive continuous improvement, governance activities and the establishment of a District-wide Aboriginal Cultural Events Committee

Essential Criteria:

Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. This is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Selection Criteria:

Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, communities and culturally safe workforce practices, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal staff, students, trainees, communities and service partners.

Relevant qualifications and/or experience in coordinating workforce development initiatives.

Demonstrated understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal employment, workforce participation, retention and career development.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with education and training providers, community organisations and other key stakeholders to support workforce development initiatives and culturally safe outcomes.

Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional correspondence, reports and workforce documentation.

Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple programs, activities and competing priorities within a complex environment.

Proven ability to apply initiative, sound judgement and problem-solving skills within a complex environment.

Current Class C Driver Licence and willingness to travel across the District as required.
