The School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) welcomes
expressions of interest from suitably qualified academics and industry professionals who would like to be considered for
casual academic (sessional) teaching opportunities within the
Mechatronic Engineering discipline.
While there are currently no existing vacancies, we are establishing a register of potential sessional staff to support future teaching needs as they arise.
Applicants with relevant academic qualifications, industry experience, and a demonstrated commitment to high‑quality learning and teaching are encouraged to submit an expression of interest (refer to selection criteria below).
Successful candidates may be contacted when short‑term, casual, or sessional teaching opportunities become available across our programs.

Accountabilities and responsibilities may include:
- Contributing to the teaching activities of the school by delivering:
- Lectures
- Tutorials
- Practical classes
- Demonstrations
- Workshops
- Student field excursions
- Computer laboratory sessions
- Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, and other learning activities as required.
- Mark assessments and undertake associated tasks related to the evaluation of student work.
- Work collaboratively as part of a teaching team, typically under the direction of a unit coordinator.
Professional Knowledge and Conduct:
- Maintain up to date knowledge about legislation, standards, practices, policies and procedures pertinent to teaching area.
- Maintain confidentiality of student grades at all times.
- Consult with students in a professional and equitable manner and comply with University protocols, policies and procedures and relevant appropriate legislation and governing body requirements.
- Display openness to diversity of opinion and adapts behaviour to be helpful and considerate.
- Perform a range of administrative functions connected to the subject in which the teaching is conducted
- Behave consistently with the Code of Conduct and Curtin’s Values.
Role Requirements:
- You will require work rights in Australia that match the tenure of the appointment, and living in WA as face-to-face teaching will be required.
- Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
- Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a range of learning opportunities for students that are relevant to the learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organisational skills including the ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and use software systems/technology to advance student success and retention.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain quality standards in teaching and assessment.
- Completion of a higher degree by research or recognised equivalent qualification.
- Experience in teaching and learning.
- Professional experience in relevant field.
- Commitment to inter-professional education (IPE), innovative and collegial principles in the provision of education services.
- Experience implementing effective practices supporting student transition, success, and retention.
The School of CME delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and high-quality research in civil and mechanical engineering. Curtin is recognised internationally as a leader in graduate research studies and for the breadth and quality of its research higher degree programs and offers Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
