Senior Full Stack Java Developer | Global Insurance Provider | Melbourne (Preferred) or Sydney

Are you a Senior Java Developer looking for more than just another development role?
We're seeking an experienced engineer to join a major enterprise transformation program, developing the next generation of applications that support critical underwriting operations.

This is an opportunity to work on business-critical systems while partnering closely with stakeholders to influence how solutions are designed and delivered.

Rather than simply delivering tickets, you'll immerse yourself in the business, gaining a deep understanding of underwriting processes and helping shape technology that delivers meaningful outcomes.

The Opportunity
You'll be responsible for developing and enhancing an internal Underwriter Portal and a suite of supporting applications that are transforming the way underwriters access and use information. You'll also play a key role in consolidating data from multiple legacy platforms into a modern global data hub, enabling new digital capabilities across the organisation. Working alongside product owners, business stakeholders and fellow engineers, you'll help design scalable, modern solutions that have a direct impact on the business.

What You'll Be Doing

Designing and developing enterprise Java applications
Building scalable microservices using Spring Boot
Developing modern front-end functionality using Angular (React also considered)
Building event-driven solutions with Kafka
Deploying applications into Kubernetes environments
Integrating data from multiple enterprise platforms
Collaborating directly with underwriting teams to understand business workflows
Influencing technical design and architectural decisions
Mentoring developers and promoting engineering best practice

Skills You'll bring:

Extensive commercial Java development experience
Strong Spring Boot and microservices expertise
Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures
Kubernetes experience
Angular or React experience
Agentic AI experience (Anthropic/Claude Preferred)
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience mentoring developers or leading technical initiatives
A passion for delivering high-quality, maintainable software
