Rather than simply delivering tickets, you'll immerse yourself in the business, gaining a deep understanding of underwriting processes and helping shape technology that delivers meaningful outcomes.
The Opportunity
You'll be responsible for developing and enhancing an internal Underwriter Portal and a suite of supporting applications that are transforming the way underwriters access and use information. You'll also play a key role in consolidating data from multiple legacy platforms into a modern global data hub, enabling new digital capabilities across the organisation. Working alongside product owners, business stakeholders and fellow engineers, you'll help design scalable, modern solutions that have a direct impact on the business.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and developing enterprise Java applications
- Building scalable microservices using Spring Boot
- Developing modern front-end functionality using Angular (React also considered)
- Building event-driven solutions with Kafka
- Deploying applications into Kubernetes environments
- Integrating data from multiple enterprise platforms
- Collaborating directly with underwriting teams to understand business workflows
- Influencing technical design and architectural decisions
- Mentoring developers and promoting engineering best practice
Skills You'll bring:
- Extensive commercial Java development experience
- Strong Spring Boot and microservices expertise
- Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures
- Kubernetes experience
- Angular or React experience
- Agentic AI experience (Anthropic/Claude Preferred)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience mentoring developers or leading technical initiatives
- A passion for delivering high-quality, maintainable software
