Salary: UOM 8: $125,191.00 - $135,504 p.a. plus 17% super

National bioinformatics infrastructure role / turn genomics data into real-world decisions / modern Python, FastAPI , PostgreSQL stack

Your next career opportunity
You will lead the core software development for the Australian Tree of Life data platform.

You will build APIs, databases and automation that connect genomics data with urgent real-world decisions.

You will collaborate daily with bioinformaticians and researchers in a highly supportive, nationally distributed team.

What you will deliver:

Develop, deploy and maintain PostgreSQL databases and FastAPI -based services for AToL data management.
Design, implement and monitor data pipelines and automation across the AToL and BioCommons platforms.
Apply secure coding, dependency management and access controls to deliver robust, reliable infrastructure services.
Collaborate with product owners and analysts to refine user stories and deliver intuitive, user- centred features.
Create automated tests, release pipelines and technical documentation that support sustainable, long-term platform operations.

You may be a great fit if you :

Hold a degree in software engineering, computer science or bioinformatics, or equivalent industry experience.
Bring at least two years’ experience as a software developer working on production systems.
Build and maintain relational databases and API backends using Python, FastAPI and OpenAPI specifications.
Apply CI/CD practices, including GitHub workflows, containerisation and deployment on Linux-based environments.
Understand and apply UX best practices, delivering clear, modern interfaces and status views for users.
Collaborate effectively in distributed teams, communicating clearly, following leadership and embracing continuous improvement.
