Job tasks and responsibilities
- Assist the Senior Designer, Pre-Construction Coordinator, Project Coordinators and Project Manager with the planning, coordination and delivery of residential projects.
- Prepare concept designs, planning drawings, detailed construction documentation and specifications using BIM software (ArchiCAD preferred).
- Produce and revise architectural plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules and 3D visualisations.
- Prepare kitchen layouts, interior design concepts, material selections and client presentation documents.
- Interpret client briefs, planning requirements, building regulations, the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards and local authority requirements.
- Coordinate consultants, including structural engineers, energy assessors, surveyors and other external professionals, to ensure timely project delivery.
- Liaise with clients throughout the design and pre-construction process, including design meetings, selections and ongoing project updates.
- Prepare preliminary cost estimates, quantity take-offs and construction cost plans to support budgeting and tendering.
- Source quotations from suppliers and subcontractors and assist in preparing tender submissions.
- Coordinate project timelines and ensure design deliverables are completed within agreed deadlines.
- Review drawings and documentation to ensure accuracy, buildability and compliance with company standards, regulations and client requirements.
- Assist the construction team by responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), preparing drawing revisions and resolving design issues during construction.
- Conduct site inspections where required to verify dimensions, monitor progress and ensure work complies with drawings and specifications.
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation within the company's project management systems.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and contractors through professional communication via meetings, email and telephone.
- Continuously contribute to improving design processes, documentation standards and the delivery of high-performance, energy-efficient homes.
The ideal candidate
The successful candidate will have:
- A residential address within 15 km of Welshpool, Western Australia.
- A Diploma qualification in Architectural Drafting, Building Design, Architecture or a related field, or at least three years of relevant industry experience (overseas qualifications and experience will be considered).
- Proven experience as an Architectural Draftsperson, Building Designer or Architect on residential construction projects.
- Experience in interior design, including kitchen design, bathroom design, material and colour selections, and client selections.
- A genuine passion for energy-efficient homes, sustainable construction and Passive House principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality documentation.
- Demonstrated experience delivering residential construction or renovation projects from concept through to construction documentation.
- Strong organisational, administration and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, consultants and contractors.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong BIM modelling skills (ArchiCAD preferred), together with proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good 3D visualisation and presentation skills.
- A demonstrated ability to coordinate consultants and resolve design issues.
- A current Australian driver's licence, reliable transport, and a good driving record.
- The ability to obtain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police (AFP) National Police Check.
- A highly motivated, proactive and positive attitude, with a willingness to continuously learn and improve.
