We are seeking a passionate Rehabilitation Registrar to join our team!

Where you'll be working -

Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is a training hospital with clinical affiliation with the University of Newcastle and The University of New England. The University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) which is part of Newcastle, University is located near the Tamworth campus. The UDRH caters to medical, allied health, and nursing students who gain invaluable rural health experience.

The culture within the Tamworth Hospital is extremely friendly and cooperative and continuous quality improvements practices are in place. It has progressive, interactive management, keen to provide assistance in the delivery of quality service.

Tamworth Hospital is a rural referral hospital with a 24-hour emergency department, high level surgical and medical services, including a diagnostic and interventional cardiac catherization laboratory, intensive care, coronary care, rehabilitation services (including brain injury), Diabetic Centre, ENT, Gastroenterology, mental health unit, renal services, paediatrics, maternity, rheumatology, oncology, radiology, and pathology.

Outpatients clinics link the New England area with specialist tertiary hospitals in Newcastle and Sydney. Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is the main referral centre and the only Major Non-Metropolitan Referral Hospital, for acute care management within the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD).

With 348 treatment spaces, Tamworth Hospital has cross-referral flows in from the upper Hunter Area Health Service and Greater Western Area Health Service.

The health service transfers patients to South-Eastern Sydney and Central Sydney Area Health Services. Flows out are predominantly to John Hunter Hospital and St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney.

What you'll be doing

Rehabilitation Medicine Trainees provide high-quality Rehabilitation services and provide effective medical services to patients under supervision while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network.

Working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants, The Trainee will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of progressing through the training program.

Trainees undertaking the care of Rehabilitation patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities:

Clinically assess patients, incorporating consultation/history taking, examination, and formulation of a differential diagnosis and management plan
Discuss diagnoses and management plans with patients and their families or carers
Document the progress of patients in multiple settings
Prescribe medications tailored to patients’ needs and conditions
Transfer care of patients
Choose, organise and interpret investigations
Assess and manage acutely unwell patients
Plan, prepare for, perform, and provide after-care for important procedures.

Qualifications -

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
Ability to provide leadership, and resolve conflict
Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate and initiative and independence within a supervised complex clinical environment.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team which include other medical staff, Allied health staff, and ward staff to ensure the appropriate management of the patient
Demonstrated Rehabilitation experience with a good understanding of the principles of Rehabilitation Medicine
Good communication skills, with the AMO, other team members, other medical teams, and families
Interest in completing the Training program of the AFRM ( RACP ) If commenced training making satisfactory progress
Current driving license
