Grade: 11/12
Salary range: $154,231-178,369 + superannuation and leave loading
Duration: permanent full-time role, ongoing
Location: Hybrid with an in-office requirement in Sydney McKell offices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and travelling across NSW attending PSN sites. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies
Play a key role in supporting and modernising one of Australia's largest mission-critical communications networks.
As a Principal Field Services Engineer, you will provide specialist field engineering expertise to support the performance, availability and resilience of the Public Safety Network (PSN), ensuring reliable communications for emergency services across NSW. You will be responsible for testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintaining and modernising telecommunications infrastructure while providing operational and project delivery activities
About the team
This role sits within the Site Solution Engineering Team in the NSW Telco Authority.
The team is responsible for supporting the delivery, operation and continuous improvement of critical telecommunications infrastructure across NSW. Working closely with engineering, project and operational teams, the team provides specialist field engineering expertise to ensure the Public Safety Network remains reliable, resilient and fit for purpose in supporting emergency services and public safety outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include
- Undertaking complex field engineering activities across mission-critical communications infrastructure, including radio, RF, transmission, networking, power and associated systems.
- Performing commissioning, integration, testing and acceptance of new telecommunications infrastructure and technology solutions.
- Investigating, analysing and resolving complex technical issues through fault diagnosis, root cause analysis and engineering improvements.
- Supporting asset refresh programs, site upgrades and operational improvement initiatives across the Public Safety Network.
- Providing specialist engineering advice to support lifecycle management and ongoing network resilience.
- Collaborating with engineering, operational and project teams to ensure field activities are delivered safely and efficiently.
- Mentoring and coaching engineers, field technicians and project teams through technical leadership and knowledge sharing.
To be successful in this role you will have
- Essential Security Clearance: You will be able to obtain and retain minimum Baseline Security clearance within six months to work with sensitive government and critical communications information
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with telecommunications infrastructure and associated systems.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with experience investigating and resolving complex technical issues.
- Experience commissioning, testing, integrating, upgrading and maintaining telecommunications or critical infrastructure assets.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, contractors, project teams and customers.
- Ability to travel throughout NSW to support testing, commissioning, maintenance and operational activities.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a White Card, RF EME Awareness, CPR and First Aid qualifications, 4WD certification and a full unrestricted Driver Licence.

Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $154231 base plus superannuation
