THE ROLE:
This multi-site leadership role is suited to an experienced HSQE professional who combines strong technical knowledge with proven people leadership, and who enjoys coaching frontline HSQE teams while partnering with operational leaders to manage risk, strengthen compliance and drive a positive safety culture.
As a Safety Specialist, you will provide specialist operational leadership, governance and assurance across Health, Safety, Quality, Environment and Food Safety disciplines. Reporting to the Senior HSQE Manager, you will lead and develop HSQE Advisors and Coordinators, ensuring consistent implementation of HSQE and Food Safety management systems, legislative compliance and workforce HSQE capability across multiple sites.
Roster: Various, to be discussed in interview, regular travel across sites will be required.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct line management, coaching, mentoring and performance development for HSQE Advisors and Coordinators.
Lead HSQE capability development through structured mentoring, training pathways and professional development plans.
Support recruitment, onboarding and induction of HSQE team members, and act as an escalation point for complex HSQE and Food Safety issues.
Provide governance and oversight of HSQE and Food Safety management systems across allocated sites, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation, Food Safety standards and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Coordinate HSQE and Food Safety audits, inspections and verification activities, and oversee corrective action management.
Lead or review complex incident and Food Safety investigations, including root cause analysis and trend identification.
Partner with Operations Managers and site leadership to ensure HSQE, Food Safety and onboarding requirements are effectively implemented.
Support the development of business cases for HSQE and Food Safety improvement initiatives, including cost-benefit analysis.
We are looking for an experienced safety leader who can combine strong technical HSQE expertise with proven people leadership and coaching capability, and the confidence to influence and build trust with operational leaders at all levels.
Essential:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Work Health and Safety, or related discipline, or minimum 2 years' experience in a safety leadership role, with demonstrated ability to build and lead a team to deliver organisational objectives.
ICAM investigation qualification.
Strong people leadership, coaching and mentoring capability, ideally gained managing direct reports.
In-depth understanding of WHS legislation, and comprehensive knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and HACCP standards.
Experience overseeing the application of HSQE procedures and systems across multiple sites.
Demonstrated experience leading complex incident investigations, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Current Australian driver's license.

Lead Auditor qualification.
Food Safety Supervisor certification.
Experience in hospitality, accommodation, catering, mining, resources or remote operations.
