Description:
We are looking for a 6-Month Senior Engineer Contractor to join the Rotageek, an ELMO product, team in Sydney to contribute to building out an AI timesheet platform.
Role Description:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Software Engineer is a core technical contributor responsible for driving high-quality feature delivery, technical design, and AI-assisted engineering within the Rotageek team. This role plays a key hands-on part in executing complex architectural patterns, leveraging AI orchestration tools to accelerate software delivery, maintaining strict code quality and security standards, and collaborating with cross-functional peers during the contract period.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Technical Execution:
•
Contributes to the domain's technical architecture, including data flow, API design, integration patterns, security models, and infrastructure alignment.
•
Drafts Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and precise API specifications in collaboration with the Technical Team Lead (TTL) and Product Owner (PO).
•
Evaluates technical feasibility of incoming business requirements, partnering with the PO to convert business intent into precise, testable, and AI-ready technical specifications.
•
Identifies technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and system refactoring needs, proactively incorporating improvements into delivery cycles.
•
Ensures all technical implementations align with ELMO’s overarching architecture and engineering standards.
AI Orchestration & Modern Engineering
•
Executes against AI agent orchestration briefs, utilizing AI tools and agents to build, refactor, and test software efficiently.
•
Assists in curating and refining domain-specific prompt libraries to maximize the effectiveness of AI-directed delivery.
•
Applies sound judgment in integrating AI capabilities and modern tools into day-to-day software development tasks.
Code Quality & Engineering Oversight
•
Submits highly reliable, secure, and clean code that meets standard quality gates (linting, SAST/DAST, unit/integration test coverage).
•
Conducts thorough, constructive pull request (PR) reviews for both human-written and AI-generated code within team SLAs.
•
Helps ensure zero critical or high security vulnerabilities are introduced into production environments.
•
Maintains test coverage completeness across developed applications and services.
Release Safety & Deployment
•
Follows feature flag strategies to ensure all new capabilities deploy dark and are enabled via progressive rollout.
•
Supports safe deployment practices, pipeline automation, and post-deployment system health monitoring (error rates, performance baselines, observability).
•
Participates in post-deployment health checks and issue triage during feature rollouts.
Delivery & Collaboration
•
Provides accurate technical estimations, task breakdowns, and feasibility assessments for upcoming quarterly/sprint initiatives.
•
Collaborates with TTLs, POs, and Designers to ensure predictable delivery against team OKRs.
•
Assists in production incident response within the team’s scope, helping perform root-cause analysis and timely remediation.
•
Actively shares knowledge, mentors junior engineers, and helps eliminate single points of failure across the codebase.
Positional Qualifications, Attributes and Skills
•
Experience: Demonstrated track record as a Senior Software Engineer delivering complex software solutions within high-performing engineering teams.
•
Architecture & System Design: Strong experience in service/system design, scalable architecture, RESTful/GraphQL APIs, and established software engineering patterns.
•
AI-Assisted Engineering: Proven capability in leveraging modern AI tools (copilots, agentic workflows, prompt engineering) in everyday development while maintaining high standards for code quality and security.
•
Quality & Security Mindset: Deep experience reviewing human-written and AI-generated code, utilizing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, SAST/DAST tools, and feature flagging.
•
Execution & Communication: Strong problem-solving skills, work breakdown capabilities, and effective communication skills when collaborating with product managers, designers, and senior technical stakeholders.
•
Reliability & Incident Triage: Calm, solution-oriented approach to diagnosing technical challenges, incident mitigation, and continuous monitoring.

Code Standards Compliance: 100% of merged PRs pass automated pipeline gates and quality thresholds.

Security & Reliability: Zero critical or high vulnerabilities introduced into production from delivered code.

AI Tool Adoption: Active usage and integration of team AI development tools to boost throughput and quality.

Delivery Predictability: Accurate technical estimations and consistent delivery against agreed 6-month contract deliverables.

to .NET 8)

- Infrastructure: CI/CD with TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, GitHub Actions, IaC using terraform
Ideal Experience:
- Have a strong knowledge of ASP.NET and C# (.NET Framework or .NET Core), with
experience designing and building backend services and APIs using both REST
and GraphQL.
- Have experience developing complex web applications using React and TypeScript, with a solid understanding of modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and familiarity with frontend architecture patterns including state management and component-based development.
- Have a good understanding of back-end architecture, including database technologies (SQL/NoSQL and ORM), and service-oriented or microservices architecture.
- Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and experience with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, or GitHub Actions.
- Be comfortable working across all areas of the software, including those you are new to, while maintaining depth within your primary area of focus.
- Be confident managing competing priorities, troubleshooting issues under
- pressure, and analysing and resolving complex customer queries with empathy and urgency.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills — able to build effective working relationships across teams, translate between technical and non-technical language, and influence decisions through collaboration and persuasion.
