A highly regarded Mexican restaurant is looking for their next skilled and enthusiastic Cook to join their vibrant kitchen team!

SkillQuest Solutions are seeking an experienced Cook on behalf of our client, a popular Mexican restaurant located in Hyde Park, South Australia.

This restaurant offers an exciting street-style Mexican dining experience, combining authentic Mexican ingredients with contemporary presentation in a lively and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant serves a wide variety of traditional and modern Mexican dishes, alongside tailored catering and private function services, delivering exceptional food and memorable dining experiences.

Location – Hyde Park, SA 5061

Salary - $77,000 - $82,000 plus superannuation per annum

Employment Type - Full-time, Permanent

THE ROLE:

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys preparing authentic Mexican cuisine and takes pride in producing consistently high-quality food while maintaining excellent hygiene, presentation and food safety standards in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

· Prepare, cook and present a wide variety of authentic Mexican dishes in accordance with established recipes and restaurant standards.

· Ensure all meals are prepared, seasoned and presented consistently to meet quality, flavour and presentation expectations.

· Prepare sauces, marinades, garnishes and accompaniments for signature menu items.

· Monitor cooking temperatures and operate kitchen equipment, including ovens, grills and fryers, to achieve consistent cooking results.

· Inspect ingredients and food supplies to ensure freshness and quality prior to preparation.

· Maintain portion control and plating standards to ensure consistency across all menu items.

· Assist with menu updates and contribute ideas for new dishes inspired by authentic Mexican cuisine.

· Prepare meals to accommodate dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and allergy-sensitive requests.

· Store food safely using appropriate stock rotation and temperature-controlled storage practices.

· Support stock control, inventory management and ordering processes under the direction of the Head Chef.

· Assist in supervising and supporting junior kitchen staff during food preparation and service.

· Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service during busy trading periods.

· Clean and sanitise food preparation areas, kitchen equipment and utensils in accordance with food safety requirements.

· Ensure compliance with Australian Food Safety Standards, workplace hygiene practices and occupational health and safety requirements.

This role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and efficient in a busy commercial kitchen while maintaining a passion for authentic Mexican cuisine.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Relevant qualification, such as a Certificate IV – Kitchen Management (or agreed equivalent).

A minimum of 1 year (preferably more) professional experience as a Cook within a commercial kitchen, ideally in Mexican cuisine.

Experience preparing authentic international cuisine, with Mexican cuisine experience highly regarded.

Strong understanding of food preparation techniques, flavour combinations and presentation standards.

Excellent knowledge of Australian food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling practices.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain consistency in flavour, quality and portion control.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards.

Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team.

A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.

You must have unrestricted working rights to work full time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.

A competitive salary of $77,000 to $82,000 plus superannuation per annum.
