About the role
As a Lecturer, you will provide research and teaching expertise in units covering various aspects of the ruminant industry, supporting practical teaching of agriculture students and provide linkage of UNE into industry, and multi-institute research and/or training partnerships. The appointee will collaborate with the existing academics and technicians in the broad fields of meat and ruminant research including teaching at UNE.
The appointee will engage in agricultural undergraduate teaching, by developing and delivering content in units across various Agricultural degrees; including but not limited to coordination of animal production and feedlot management units, plus delivery of content on animal handling and other topics as required.
The appointee will provide supervision to HDR students in the broad field of red meat and ruminant livestock production, particularly linking HDR students to industry-funded projects and training opportunities. The appointee will also contribute to the effective delivery of the Meat Science team¿s research program by managing and progressing existing projects, including coordination of collaborators, reporting timelines, and day-to-day project oversight.
The appointee will also contribute to the national and international research profile of the School, by initiating and managing externally-funded research collaborations with red meat industry stakeholders, across a wide range of meat production topics, from sustainable and ethical livestock systems with strong industry application.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a PhD or equivalent in ruminant production or a closely related field, along with knowledge of multiple Australian ruminant industries and production systems and relevant postdoctoral experience, and research interests that complement the Animal Science Group. You will have the ability to teach innovative, research-driven, student-centred and industry relevant learning, both in online and face-to-face settings for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and you will have a demonstrated ability to develop an excellent scholarly research track record with publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. You can develop, manage and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external colleagues, research stakeholders and funding bodies, for successful collaborations and to develop new ideas into externally-funded research projects. You will have an excellent ability to communicate research and science effectively to students and research stakeholders. You will be able to effectively supervise honours and postgraduate research students. You will be able to work independently and collaboratively, including by applying culturally respectful, inclusive, and safe workplace practices, in a diverse and complex academic setting.
