About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Software Engineer to contribute to cutting-edge research and development in wireless communications. This role will work closely with industry partners to design, develop and implement WiFi firmware and drivers, supporting innovative applications in IoT and telecommunications.
The successful candidate will be based within the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Sydney. The telecommunication research area within the school of ECE is internationally recognised for excellence in wireless communications and signal processing and includes five IEEE Fellows, several research fellows, and more than 50 postgraduate students. The University is ranked 13th globally in Telecommunications (Shanghai subject rankings).
Your key responsibilities will be to:
develop and implement WiFi firmware and driver solutions in collaboration with industry partners
contribute to embedded software development across wireless and IoT systems
design and optimise WiFi application layer functionality
apply knowledge of WiFi protocols and sensing to real-world engineering challenges
support integration of AI and machine learning approaches into wireless systems
collaborate with academic staff, researchers and students within CIoTT
ensure timely delivery of project milestones and outcomes
About you
a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
demonstrated experience in embedded software development
proven expertise in WiFi driver and firmware development
experience in WiFi application layer development
strong understanding of WiFi protocols, WiFi sensing and IoT systems
familiarity with AI and machine learning techniques
demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines
strong written and verbal communication skills
proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
