Overview of the Role:
As the National Switchboard Operator, you will play a key role in delivering a professional and seamless experience for all callers across Marsh offices in Australia. You will be the first point of contact for many internal and external stakeholders and will represent the organisation with professionalism, accuracy, and exceptional customer service.
This role is responsible for managing a high-volume national switchboard, ensuring calls are answered promptly and directed accurately, while maintaining up-to-date directory and team information. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
The national switchboard operates between 8:00am and 6:00pm. Flexibility is essential, as the successful candidate will be required to work varying shifts and provide full-shift coverage to support operational requirements and business continuity
Duties include but are not limited to:
Answer and manage all incoming calls for Marsh offices across Australia in a professional and timely manner.
Accurately transfer calls and assist callers with general enquiries.
Maintain and regularly update the national switchboard console and directory information.
Review new starter and exit reports provided by the Facilities Management team and update records accordingly.
Liaise with managers to confirm contact details, team structures, and extension information for new employees
Work closely with team assistants and business leaders to ensure team lists and contact details remain current.
Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders to support accurate and efficient call management.
Deliver a consistently high standard of customer service to clients, employees, and visitors.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and actively participate in learning and development opportunities.
Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a positive team-focused approach in all interactions.

Previous experience operating a busy switchboard or working in a high-volume customer service environment.
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build credibility and maintain professional relationships across all levels of the business.
Excellent customer service skills with a professional and courteous manner.
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated problem-solving capability and sound judgement.
Confidence using technology and willingness to learn new systems and processes.
