Role Description
The Purchasing and Stores Officer is responsible for supporting the stores, inventory and purchasing function for Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
You will ensure GSE parts and equipment are sourced, purchased, recorded, stored and maintained efficiently to support equipment availability and minimise downtime. The role works closely with technicians, workshop staff, management, suppliers and other GSE locations to support a just-in-time purchasing and inventory methodology.
You will:
- Manage GSE spare parts inventory and stock levels
- Source, compare and order parts and equipment
- Maintain parts databases and bin locations
- Coordinate parts availability with other GSE locations
- Liaise with suppliers and contractors
- Coordinate daily parts pick-up and delivery
- Support technicians and units requiring service or repair
- Assist with stocktakes and inventory reconciliation
- Undertake supplier price comparisons and negotiations
- Assess genuine versus non-genuine parts on cost and quality
- Undertake repair versus replacement cost-benefit analysis
- Reconcile parts and invoices and assist with invoice queries
- Benchmark parts pricing and quality
- Monitor budget and cost targets
- Maintain hazardous materials and MSDS registers
- Ensure appropriate storage of dangerous goods
- Support workplace safety and compliance requirements

Essential Requirements
Required Role Experience:
Strong experience in purchasing, procurement, stores or spare parts management, with demonstrated experience identifying and managing supplier networks.
Maintenance Qualification / Licence:
Current trade certification relevant to the GSE Airports business is required. No tertiary qualification is required.
Work Rights:
Must have appropriate Australian work rights. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Location / Availability:
Location is TBC. Must be available to work 0600–1406 Monday–Friday.
Additional Requirements:
Eligible to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC). Candidates must be able to meet Qantas safety, security and compliance requirements.
Skills:
Strong PC skills and working knowledge of IFS or a similar ERP/fleet management system. Mechanical equipment knowledge, cost-control capability, contract and commercial documentation knowledge, analytical and organisational skills, and proven negotiation capability are required.
Attitude:
Able to work independently within a small team, build effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, communicate clearly, use initiative and maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance.
