Join Evoenergy and play a key role in shaping the future of the operational telecommunications infrastructure that supports the ACT's electricity network. As Principal Communications Standards Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, engineering governance and strategic direction for communications systems that enable secure, resilient and scalable network operations.
Reporting to the Manager Engineering Standards, this position acts as Evoenergy's enterprise authority for communications engineering standards, driving the development of communications architectures, technical policies, engineering standards and assurance practices that support modern network operations and future Distribution System Operator (DSO) capabilities.
About the Role
This is a senior technical leadership position responsible for establishing the architecture, standards and governance framework for operational telecommunications networks across Evoenergy's electricity network. You will bring together engineering expertise, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement to ensure communications systems remain secure, reliable and fit for the future.
Working across Asset Management, Operations, Network Delivery and external delivery partners, you will help guide the ongoing evolution of operational communications capability while supporting standardisation, resilience and continuous improvement across the business.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and continual improvement of communications engineering standards, technical policies, reference architectures and application guidelines.

Develop strategic roadmaps for operational telecommunications networks and communications infrastructure.

Provide technical stewardship, engineering assurance and governance of telecommunications engineering standards across the business.

Establish and maintain communications architecture principles, resilience requirements and integration frameworks.

Lead the development and governance of standardised communications architectures supporting smart grid capability, customer energy resource integration and emerging DSO requirements.

Translate operational and project lessons learned into improvements to standards, policies and reference designs.

Promote the long-term sustainability, maintainability and resilience of operational telecommunications infrastructure.
About You
You are an experienced communications or telecommunications engineer with a strong background in utility networks, engineering governance and technical assurance. You enjoy influencing technical direction, establishing standards and working across a broad stakeholder group to deliver long-term business outcomes.
Essential
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline.

Current ACT Professional Engineering Registration, or the ability to obtain registration.

Extensive experience in operational telecommunications networks, communications infrastructure and network architecture or planning within electricity networks.

Strong knowledge of utility communications technologies, communications engineering standards, network integration principles and IP-based communications networks.

Experience in engineering standards, technical assurance and engineering governance.

Experience reviewing and assuring communication systems against approved standards.

Strong understanding of risk management, change control and assurance practices within critical infrastructure environments.
Desirable
-
Postgraduate qualifications in telecommunications, network engineering, power systems, digital infrastructure or a related discipline.

Experience developing telecommunications standards, architecture principles and bearer network architectures.

Experience supporting improvements in standardisation and engineering governance maturity.
