About the opportunity

Join the NSW SES as a Business Analyst and play a crucial role in driving business improvements and enhancing operational efficiency. This is a newly established team responsible for leading digital delivery across the organisation's operational systems portfolio. We are building a contemporary product management and digital delivery capability that partners closely with operational stakeholders to deliver user centred, reliable and innovative solutions. The focus for this role is on strengthening governance, improving operational capability, and enabling frontline emergency services through modern, fit for purpose technology.

Working within a dynamic technical and operational environment, you will collaborate with volunteers, stakeholders and technical teams to understand business needs, analyse existing processes and identify opportunities to improve the way we deliver services. You will lead business analysis activities that support the enhancement of existing operational systems and the implementation of new digital capabilities, ensuring solutions align with organisational priorities and deliver measurable business value.

You will be responsible for documenting business requirements, facilitating workshops, mapping current and future state business processes, coordinating testing, and developing practical recommendations that support informed decision making. As the primary point of contact for operational systems enquiries, you will also manage Service Desk requests, build trusted relationships with stakeholders and volunteers, and provide responsive, customer focused support to ensure issues are resolved effectively.

This role is based at the NSW SES State Headquarters in Wollongong or in Rhodes, while some flexible working arrangements are available, this role requires you to work from the office often to ensure effective collaboration and support for project activities. Some out of hour's work may be required, including weekends and nights.

To be successful in this role you will:

demonstrate experience in business analysis, business process improvement and solution design within a technical or complex service delivery environment;
have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify business needs and develop practical, evidence-based solutions;
have excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with volunteers, business representatives and technical teams;
demonstrate strong customer focus, with experience managing enquiries and delivering responsive, high quality service in a fast paced operational environment; and
have experience documenting business requirements, facilitating workshops and mapping current and future state business processes.

Include how you engage stakeholders, gather and validate requirements, analyse options and communicate recommendations to both technical and non technical audiences.

Continuous improvement and change: Provide an example of a business improvement initiative you have led or significantly contributed to. Describe the problem, your analysis, the solution you recommended and implemented, how you managed stakeholder engagement, and the outcome achieved.
