Automation Technology Specialist

Our Opportunity

Work Location: Perth Office – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are seeking an Automation Projects Specialist to support the practical delivery of automation and field technology projects, with a strong focus on site execution, supplier coordination, installation readiness, commissioning and handover. The successful person will coordinate system installations on site, manage inputs from internal teams and vendors, and ensure works are planned and delivered safely with minimal operational disruption.

This is a Perth-based role with regular site travel required. During active installation and commissioning periods, site attendance will be required.

Key Responsibilities

Establish project scopes, develop scopes of work and prepare project delivery documentation
Coordinate internal inputs across Engineering, Mining Operations, Maintenance, Procurement & Contracts, IT/OT and other relevant teams
Manage supplier and vendor interfaces, including technical deliverables, planning and scheduling, installation support and issue resolution
Track milestones, dependencies, risks and actions, escalating issues early to drive practical resolution
Drive change management to ensure operational readiness, stakeholder engagement, training and implementation planning are delivered in accordance with Fortescue requirements
Oversee system installations on site, including vendor mobilisation, job setup and readiness validation
Support commissioning activities, including system energisation, functional testing, interface validation, fault-finding and handover readiness
Act as the site-facing project representative during installation, commissioning, testing and early operational support phases
Ensure operational feedback is captured and directed towards improvement opportunities for future deployments.

Qualifications and Experience

Experience in mining operations, maintenance or project delivery with site-based execution
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and drive work through to completion
Experience with Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) or mining automation
Experience in electrical installation, commissioning or maintenance
Digger Electrician or field electrical background, including engineering or electrical experience
Experience with industrial automation, control systems, operational technology networks or field technology deployments
Experience with LiDAR, machine vision, image recognition, HMI systems or networked field systems
Experience with remote operations, control rooms or HIVE operations
Strong communication, follow-through and action management skills
Strong practical problem-solving skills.
