The platform assists contractors with estimating, project delivery, document intelligence, workflow automation, operational analytics and business decision support.
We are seeking an Applied Statistician (Artificial Intelligence) to contribute to the research, development and implementation of statistical methodologies that support our AI products and commercial software platform.
Role Description
The Applied Statistician (Artificial Intelligence) is a full-time, on-site role based in Melbourne or Sydney.
You will apply advanced statistical techniques, quantitative analysis and predictive modelling to develop, validate and optimise artificial intelligence solutions for real-world construction and operational challenges. Working closely with software engineers, AI developers and product teams, you will translate complex datasets into statistically robust models that improve the accuracy, reliability and performance of our AI systems.
This role combines applied statistical research with practical implementation, enabling innovative statistical methods to be incorporated into production AI applications used by commercial customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and implement statistical models to support artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
- Analyse structured and unstructured datasets using appropriate statistical methodologies.
- Design experiments, hypothesis tests and validation frameworks for AI model evaluation.
- Develop predictive models, forecasting techniques and quantitative algorithms to improve operational decision-making.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering and statistical inference on large datasets.
- Evaluate AI and machine learning model performance using appropriate statistical metrics and validation techniques.
- Collaborate with software engineers to integrate statistical models into production AI systems.
- Research and apply emerging statistical techniques relevant to artificial intelligence, predictive analytics and data science.
- Prepare technical reports, research documentation and statistical recommendations for internal stakeholders.
- Present analytical findings and quantitative insights in a clear and practical manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of AI models through ongoing experimentation, validation and performance monitoring.
- Participate in research activities, experimentation and publication of technical findings where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science or another closely related quantitative discipline.
- Strong knowledge of statistical inference, probability, regression analysis, predictive modelling and quantitative analysis.
- Demonstrated experience applying statistical techniques to complex datasets.
- Proficiency in Python, R or equivalent statistical programming languages.
- Experience using SQL and data analysis tools.
- Understanding of supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques.
- Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to multidisciplinary teams and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or Master's degree in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or a related quantitative discipline.
- Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) or Generative AI.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Experience with Bayesian statistics, experimental design, causal inference or time series analysis.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
- Experience applying statistical methods within engineering, construction, manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Publications or research experience in statistics, artificial intelligence or machine learning will be highly regarded.
