Primary objective
Assist the Executive Director Southern Region, to manage, implement and coordinate the functions of the Department in
the Central Australia and Barkly Regions to ensure an integrated approach across programs, and lead the delivery of strategic
projects.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the Executive Director to coordinate the agency’s delivery of Government priorities through regional

coordination and other regional/local committees.
2. Lead and partner in the delivery of priority projects in the region, to support the Government’s agenda in rebuilding the

economy and restoring the Territory lifestyle.
3. Provision of strategic advice on regional issues impacting the department, including research, analysis, evaluation and

reporting of these matters.
4. Support the Executive Director and other agency executives to build and maintain professional networks across

government agencies with key stakeholder groups in Central Australia and the Barkly, to ensure the effective
coordination and delivery of key policy and programs.

5. Provide leadership and assist in coordinating the activities of staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the regional
office.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated political acumen and an ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with external

stakeholders.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and fluently, both orally and in

writing combined with highly developed negotiation skills.
3. High-level organisational and coordination skills including the ability to work autonomously and under pressure,

prioritising workloads and maintaining flexibility.
4. Sound knowledge of contemporary issues and initiatives impacting the department in the region, and the relationships

with agency partners to assist to drive the strategic directions of the agency and of Government.
5. Relevant personal attributes including sound judgement and decision-making skills, strong political acumen and

leadership skills, and proven expertise in change management in a complex, diverse organisation.
6. An understanding of the social, political and demographic environment of the Central Australia and Barkly Regions and

an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
7. A current 'C' Class drivers’ licence or equivalent, or ability to obtain, with a willingness to travel in remote areas.

Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications will be well regarded.
2. While predominantly office-based, this position may require some intra-state travel as required.
