Details: The Health and Community Services Directorate has a temporary position available until 16th October 2026 (with possibility of extension not exceeding 6 months) for Director, Clinical System Governance. The successful applicant will play a critical role in strengthening system‑wide patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical governance across the ACT health system.
Reporting to the Senior Director, this role leads high‑impact initiatives that support the implementation of the ACT Clinical Governance Arrangements, advance quality and safety systems, and provide expert advice on complex clinical and policy matters. This role works at the intersection of clinical governance, policy, data,
system improvement, and stakeholder engagement, partnering with executives, clinicians, and external organisations at a Territory‑wide and national level.
We are seeking an experienced health professional or system specialist who can confidently operate at a whole-of-system level and lead complex quality and safety initiatives. The successful candidate will bring extensive expertise in clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement, with experience applying
improvement methodologies, measurement and benchmarking in healthcare settings. You will have a proven ability to deliver complex system-wide projects, analyse and interpret clinical quality and safety data, and translate insights into clear, actionable advice. Strong communication skills are essential, including experience preparing executive and ministerial briefings. You will excel at building relationships, influencing stakeholders and working collaboratively across multiple organisations and professional groups. The role requires sound judgement, adaptability and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, alongside demonstrated leadership capability and a commitment to integrity, collaboration, emotional intelligence and respect in line with ACT Public Service values.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated work experience in health, safety and quality, governance, change management or related discipline are highly desirable.

Experience in leading cross-functional projects, navigating data governance environments, and translating insights into actionable system improvements will be highly regarded.

This is a high-impact role within the Directorate, supporting and leading system-level initiatives across clinical governance, safety, quality, and performance.
The position requires strong experience in leading a team, working across complex health systems (public and private), with demonstrated capability in stakeholder engagement, data-informed decision making, and driving organisational as well as system level improvement. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, to deliver outcomes that improve service quality and patient safety.
