Position Objective
Support and role model for direct care staff around the daily implementation of the therapeutic intervention strategies for Children, Young People (CYP) and Participants in alignment with Allambi’s Needs Based Restorative Framework. Manage the day to day operations of the therapeutic care environment and implementation of case plan goals and individual service planning (ISP) goals. Support and coach staff to improve their practice and achieve permanency outcomes for CYP.
Position Summary
This is a role is a change to our current structure. The aim of this role is to provide consistency to the young people we work with and provide consistent care, in order to create better outcomes. House Managers will be responsible for one house. Which is a maximum of 2-4 clients (1x 4 bed placement, 1 x 3 bed placement, 5 x 2 bed placement). House Managers will do shifts in the house with their staff, with a minimum of one day in office. Shifts will be 9am -5pm, Monday to Friday with House Managers having priority over one overtime shift on the weekend in their house.
The role of the House Manager is a front-line supervisory role to support and develop staff to drive the day-to-day implementation of the Needs Based Restorative Framework, Permanency Case Plan goals/ ISP goals. The House Manager will directly oversee teams of direct care staff and will work closely with the Therapeutic Specialist to implement therapeutic interventions within the house. House Managers will report to Residential Coordinators. The office day will focus on administration, supporting, training, and mentoring them to create a therapeutic care environment for CYP, as well as development and coaching around staff support. The House Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of the Therapeutic Care environment of one placement.
Professional competencies and skills required

Experience in working with children and young people with complex and difficult emotional and behavioural issues, within a residential care context.

An understanding of the impact of trauma on children, and their families.
-
Theoretical understandings of attachment and trauma informed care.
-
Knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act, 2005 and The Commission for children and Young people’s Reportable Conduct Scheme.

Knowledge of the legal and ethical guidelines governing requirements for mandatory reporting
-
Ability to use collaborative practice principles when working with other stakeholders.

Understanding of screening, intake, transition and exit assessment procedures.
-
Ability to manage critical incidents utilising Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) methods.
-
Skills to engage with the family members of the children and young people, work with families, and assist in the maintenance of appropriate family relationships.

Skills and strategies to manage the safety of children and young people, and staff, through attention to detail, ability to manage risk, and report all concerns or incidents as per Allambi policy and procedure.

Ability to manage client files in compliance with Allambi policy and procedure, contractual and statutory requirements.

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding the child or young person’s information and that of their family.

Willingness to work within Allambi Workplace Health and Safety policy and procedure, as well as WHS legislation, and report all hazards and incidents.

Willingness to implement all Allambi policies and procedures, particularly in relation to maintaining the residential house, all files and other paperwork.

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, to complete the Case Plans and other essential reports and forms, in a timely manner.

Computer literacy.
Key areas of work

Responsible for the leadership, supervision, support and development of the ITC staff.

Responsibility for managing team dynamics and addressing low level staff performance issues. A willingness to work with Senior staff and People, Support and Culture to address more significant issues.

Drive and support the team of Direct Care staff to implement the case plan goals/ ISP goals in the day to day lives of CYP and participants.
-
Have an understanding of, and hold staff accountable, around their involvement in achieving the permanency Case Plan goal.
-
Reporting of information to assist in the mapping of monthly Outcomes.
-
Assist in the development and application of daily routines for each child, young person or participant and provide feedback on any strengths or barriers.
-
Supporting CYP and /or their family to engage in specialised therapeutic interventions as stipulated in the Case Plan.
-
Attend and contribute to Care Team meetings.

Organisation and documentation of specialised therapeutic interventions with the child or young person, and/or their family, as stipulated in the Case Plan.
-
Ensure direct care staff are working according to the child, young person or participant’s Case Plan/ ISP goals and Positive Response and Intervention Plan. Provide continual feedback around the effectiveness of the plan.

Participate in reflective practice with a commitment to improving service quality, by supporting direct care staff to utilise reflective practice to allow the growth of the team.

Mentor the day to day implementation of the Needs Based Restorative Framework by direct care staff.

Attend and document professional appointments for CYP (legal, health, education, vocation etc.)
-
Maintain the safety and quality of the Care Environment.
-
Provision of mentoring, feedback and training to direct care staff in order to develop their therapeutic care skills and the implementation of the Needs Based Restorative Framework. Provide feedback to management staff around areas of strength and development for each team member.

Manage the day to day administrative needs of the house.
-
Demonstrate collaborative practice through the ongoing development of relationships with the Care Team members and through maintaining effective communication.

Liaise with different departments within Allambi to ensure the smooth running of the placements.
-
Participate in reflective practice with a commitment to improving service quality, by using reflective practice to allow the growth of the team in relation to practice.

Ensure administrative alignment with the State regulatory standards (Ten Essential Elements or Victorian Human Service Standards).
-
Ensure that DFFH management are updated on incidents that occur with clients and in necessary a CIM’s report completed.
-
Ensure all relevant documentation is uploaded to AIMS.
-
Ensure all relevant information is entered into AIM’s in a timely manner.
In circumstances where Allambi Care has Contracted Case Management:

Organise all relevant information about the child or young person and work collaboratively with the Residential Coordinator to form an assessment plan, which may include collecting information from case files and other service providers.

Collate any information needed prior to and organise aspects of the assessment of the child or young person and their family.

Collation of information to assist in the weekly/fortnightly/monthly Care Team Meetings.

Organisation and documentation of specialised therapeutic interventions with the child or young person, and/or their family, as stipulated in the Case Plan.

Organise, attend and document Care Team Meetings. Be responsible for collating all information that is required for these meetings.
In circumstances where Allambi Care does not have Contracted case management:

Liaise with the DFFH Case manager for each child or young person and attend Care Team meetings to assist with assessment and information of Care Team goals and the implementation of interventions required.
Minimum requirements (Essential Criteria)

Relevant qualification required with a future desire to complete a qualification or working towards qualification, in psychology, social work, occupational therapy, psychiatric nursing, Human Services or similar. Proof of qualification is required.

Willingness to undertake role specific training in frontline management if they do not hold prior qualifications.

Demonstrated autonomy when supporting multiple teams and clients.
