- Productive environment and but lots of demands and expectation need to be met. 
- Low hours and low pay - depends on age 
- Experience at working different roles (multitask) - marking/recording, study skills, instructor and check in/out reception. 
- Good team work but lacks pace and efficiency at working at face past environment 
- Some employees lack team cooperation and time management skills, therefore other employees have to do their work and catch up. 
- Sometimes Manager and Senior Assistant threaten kids and complains about how employees never get work done on time, but in reality they leave everything to employees and walk out to attend their other business. 
- Do not get overpay if we stay back finishing piles of recording. 
- Acts really nice and professional to Senior managers and franchise owners but after that they turn crazy mode . 
- Also calls parent swear words on phone calls. 
- Always show favourites to some employees over others and standing up for them and let others do their work and get in trouble.  

ROLES 
- Marker/ Recorders - always so sloppy in their work and this leads to instructors and reception doing their work and letting markers go home early. 
- Instructor - accountable for kids action/ behaviour/ attitude - if kids don’t read English out loudly , instructor gets consequences 
- receptionist - always attend calls, stock and attend parents and respond to request. 
- manager - sits there with computer doing some other business and only shouts when she doesn’t see right thing happening. 

Overall, very boring, demanding and low pay.

At Kumon, you can expect to be challenged. I work mostly with 4-8 year olds, which I thought would be extremely easy, but it came with challenges I was not expecting. I was offered many chances to grow as an educator, to better understand how to relate to children, and the best way to explain very basic concepts. It also offers a great insight into what it would be like managing students as a teacher.
 
Having experienced the work culture and atmosphere of two different centres, I came to understand that the Kumon experience, while similar, is not the same for all (for parents, students and assistants). It greatly depends on how confident the instructor is in their approaches, and how willing or resistant they are to change. 

The best part of being an assistant is the collection of students it draws in. Often we have children who are beating themselves up because they can't do this, or that. It is so rewarding when that thing they have been stuck on finally clicks, and there's a genuine expression of excitement on their face. In the end, that's what it's all about.

At Kumon I was required me to work in conjunction with other staff members towards helping kids with their work and making sure they are out of the centre in their limit time of forty five minutes. We were all delegated a specific job where we had to work together to achieve our goal and at the same time deliver quality feedback to each student requiring help. We had staff helping out ‘on the floor’ which is attending to any kids who is having difficulties with their work and we had staffs marking and recording the completed classwork which is given back to them for any corrections. Once this has been completed, a staff member takes maths students aside for timetables check and another staff member does the English students’ reading checks. All of this has to done and completed within forty five minutes of each kid’s arrival. The hardest part of the job is to meet the time limit and at the same time deliver the right quality time to each student. The most enjoyable part of the job was having the responsibility of the centre on accasions when the manager is away. It gave me confidence and a sense of responsibility  .

This was my first job and I have absolutely no regrets about it. The manager is so supportive and understands that you may have other time commitments that can come up at a moment's notice. The training could've been a little better as I, along with many of my coworkers, pretty much had to learn on the job - even though we were inexperienced high schoolers. However, the job itself is pretty simple as you pretty much just mark the workbooks according to the marking scheme, answer any questions the kids have, and even teach them concepts once you've been working for a bit longer. The manager introduced me to the idea of awards, pay rates, signing in/singing out, and a lot of other key things that helped me to pick out jobs that weren't impeding upon these rights once I moved on from this job. He didn't mind us signing in a few minutes late due to transport delays, and always ensured we signed out just before the end of our shift. If there was ever any work remaining, he'd just do it himself instead of making us stay overtime. Overall, a lovely entry level job that's really great if you're a high schooler wanting a part-time job that won't prevent you from pursuing any other activities outside of school.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at the company are the cute kids who somehow or the other wins your heart while working. Though some of the kids are not so strong with maths and english but after a point of time uou start liking them.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Employers. My employer was kind of strict with us. He always used to mention our mistakes. I know this doesn't reflect anything bad but the way he used to do it was very rude and it's not just me who is saying this. All of my colleagues had the same issue with him.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is quite good and some of the kids are very friendly but you can't actually be free to talk to themes the work load is quite too much.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day was very tiring. Your legs start hurting and you start feeling hungry while on work. Though it's enjoyable if you have your colleagues as your friends.

They expect you to know the job as soon as you start. There wasn't much support from my manager who, when I needed help, waived me off and left me not knowing what to do. They start you in the classes with no previous training and teach you as you go. This may not be a problem for some people, however, this is a fast-paced environment with little to no time for them to teach you.  This then leads to you being left alone without knowing what to do as you haven't been taught. This was one of the most stressful places I've worked and the pay is not good at all. Management was extremely rude during class and when under pressure but switches to kind and thoughtful after there is no stress or rush, which personally I can not work with as it is unprofessional in my opinion. I was told prior to my interview to not take things personally and that it was just criticism however after taking the job I was spoken to with an extremely rude tone and sarcasm I was being talked to as if I was a child. 

I would normally evaluate students' math exercises and lecture them, in case they needed assistance.

During short time working there, I learnt how to work without assistance and to think logically in order to give personal assistance and explanations.

The manager was a great person, who was usually concerned about each staff individually.

The place was culturally great, since each staff would often help each other in case it got busy. We had occasionally encounters to socialise and catch-up.

The hardest part of the job was to keep up with maths, since there are several things within this subject that I have not seen nor used for a long time. However, once I remembered all the concepts and math rules, the job was done smoothly.

Teaching and lecturing all the kids was the most enjoyable part of this job. I felt great about enlightening mathematical concepts to them.

It was decent for a while (grading). But when you get to teaching, it's very stressful. The managers don't help you but get annoyed when you don't know how to work with the kids. There is pretty much no training. I am a high school student, only 16. However, they expected me to work with and effectively teach many kids with ADHD, Autism, etc. WITHOUT any formal training. And when I couldn't complete my work, they just criticised me regardless of their contribution. I had many friends there, but we all feel the same way; everyone who joins Kumon ends up leaving after a few months if not weeks. It's not worth it. So much stress and not enough pay. I cried very often due to being overwhelmed with everything on my plate due to work and the pressure that the parents+managers+kids gave me. toxic environment.

A typical day at work includes tutoring kids in: high school level mathematics and lower, and primary comprehension. At Kumon we are trained to mark and record students work and also be able to determine future study progress from recorded work. My co-workers and I are focused on work, easy to communicate with and we work well with each other especially if we need assistance from one another. The hardest part of the job would be finding out how a child learns and adapting my teaching style to the child. The most enjoyable part of the job is teaching kids and watching them progress academically knowing I participated in their education. I enjoy working here as I have been a student here and the company has definitely helped me excel in my academic studies at school.

There's only 2 adults in the management and they're often busy with their own duties, during training they teach you how Kumon works, etc. It might be really overwhelming at first but after the second training session it was easy. They offered two jobs- 1 working with younger kids, 2- marking homework and classwork. Depending on the amount of kids in the classroom that day you could either have little to no one or 5+ booklets waiting to be marked. Breaks are self-dictated and preferred when there is no work to be marked (usually a bathroom break). On the more busier days my neck and back felt like breaking after only 3 hours of work, having to look between the answer booklet and the student's book is very straining on my body after 3 hours.
