Krispy Kreme

Prior to this job I never had the displeasure of working in a fast paced environment with some very aloof co-workers. And I hope to never have to endure something like this again. The job description sounded pretty straightforward upon the interview (phone call): packing and decorating doughnuts. And the problem was not the physically demanding role, but the people I worked with. I was very disappointed with the poor training from the senior staff members whose instructions contained fewer than three words and in very poor, hardly understandable English. I was constantly told not to speak even though other staff workers were casually talking between themselves. Few of the younger staff members were nice to me, but mind you, there are two, perhaps three, very powerful clan cultures hungering and competing for domination here and they will eat an honest man up if you are not very resilient. Since I was not deemed suitable for any of the clan groups, I felt shunned, dejected and even sabotaged at times during my shifts. As a new employee in training, I have been constantly given the most challenging small jobs at which I performed badly, but these were not suitable to be given to a new employee. I had huge expectations from this job and had hoped to be gradually introduced to the many fun aspects of doughnut processing. Instead, I was showered with harsh criticism and hardly any praise for work done. Even though this workplace gets extremely busy, I would have loved that at least some informal induction process was in place because it would have saved me the many tears I cried at work and after work.

The best thing about the job was meeting the manager who seemed like a very genuine and decent person unlike few of the predatory co-workers who have much to learn from him. So, if you are introverted, sensitive, get easily overstimulated by noisy environment and just hate the clan work drama, then look elsewhere or you risk to become doughnut sad for life. 

Typical day at work is quite fast paced and busy. 
Management is okay, but sometimes unyielding to personal issues when you need to take days off i.e. for mental health issues or family commitments. This leads to me having to take "sick" days that eat into my annual leave a lot. 

The team members that are coworkers are the best part of the job. The workplace environment is great for the most part as mostly everyone is welcoming and does their bit to help each other out. 

Hardest part of the job are the rude customers who expect speedy service especially during rush hours in the store, and will complain about swapping or exchanging doughnuts when it's against our store policy. It gets tiring when you are rostered on for 5 days in a row, mentally and physically. It is a physically strenuous job as you need to pack orders, make coffee, clean the dining floor, the toilets, and work area, take out the garbage, and move boxes and other inventory around. 

I've learned how to steam milk and pour coffee, as well as assert myself in a workplace environment. For all its bad points, it has improved my confidence in talking to people and in my own skills.

serving customers would be one of the best parts of my job, seeing customers return to store and being able to call them by name is very rewarding as a Store Manager.  Hiring new staff is also can rewarding and a little upsetting on occasion how ever from experience it is so rewarding to watch a team member grow under my management and in some cases be able to promote up to your leadership team.  I have learnt so much from Krispy Kreme, from my customer service skill, cash handling, barista skills, Management training and skills, food and safety handling.  A key point for me to remember is  I am now able to organize and hold whole store meetings and Manage to have the best meeting attendance rate across the State, then receive notice that the CEO wants to attend my store meetings as he is keen to see what I do to be able to turn a whole store around within 2 years from lifting the sales to creating a culture that he wants throughout the company.  The hardest part would be rostering staff on Christmas Day.  Everyday is enjoyable

I worked for Krispy Kreme Australia for over a year. Out of my 5 years in retail, KK was by far my least favourite. 
In my experience, KK took very little care of their staff. In my time there, there were multiple incidents of staff members feeling threatened/ unsafe by a customer, in which KK actually encouraged those team members against taking it to the police. 
KK is also very old fashioned in their approach to customer service, they definitely have a "customer is always right" mentality and even if a customer was abusive to a team member, head office would still try their best to please the customer (therefore rewarding the customer's treatment of their staff).

I honestly was quite uncomfortable working for a company that had no care for their employees well being. The pay is also extremely low. When I was 18 I was on less than $13 per hour.

A typical day at work - When I was doing afternoon shifts and it was a very busy day. We had big orders from 7/11 pumps also from our krispy kreme stores. And 3 girls called in sick this day.I was so frustrated because some of the girls we worked that day was very slow and they aslo new at the job.

What you learned - I have learned that there is nothing possible if you work together as a team and be prepared at all time.

Management - We have managed everything on time because I was trying to push everyone to work very fast and hard so we can all cleaned together and finished work on time.

Your co-workers - Some of them are very crumpy and they take things too seriously. Some of them are very friendly and nice to one another and very helpful at work but that doesn't bother me working and being who I am today.

The hardest part of the job - Ooohhh this when machines break down and no shells or rings to process.

The most enjoyable part of the job - When is time to go home haha

Krispy Kreme use to be a very relaxing place where they one they trusted their employees. However, over the years the company has become very strict towards their employees and rather yell at them than appreciate staff’s hard word. Pay is above average which is good. Krispy Kreme is a great place to work if it’s your first job but if you stay for too long the company is just treating you more like a number than a person. Management just always look down on you for not working “hard enough”. My experience here I’ve just gotten treated very poorly and was fed up by the mistreatment. There are only very few of our higher ups that were very kind to all but the management that worked closely to staff were horrible. 

Management are greatly aware of the high turnover rate, and they couldn’t care to take the steps to change this. Overall, the training is poor and the environment is unmotivating. You are spoken to condescendingly. Unless you are a favourite, you’ll consistently be recognised for your errors and will be shamed for it in front of your coworkers. You are just cattle and the pay is not worth your mental health. 

The team leaders are an echo chamber of ants with superiority complexes. I consistently overhear team leaders gossip to each other about team members and other leaders. They need to learn how to give constructive criticism and not talk about others personal lives in a “professional” setting. 

Typical day during a busy time is very fast paced and hectic. Hard work at first but you pick it up after a week or two. Although you get great experience in food processing role you kind of feel that managers have no concern for you if your a casual worker. Turn over of employees is high due to their intake of casual employees for promotional periods. Not a stable job unless they offer you a permanent role. Some managers are rude and have no work ethic but a few really make your shift great. Other than that the staff there are awesome. Would recommend working afternoon shift, awesome staff on afternoon shifts. Most enjoyable part of the day is the people you work beside and of course the free doughnuts!

Krispy Kreme is easily the most amazing job, it was my second job along side Grill'd and I can say without a doubt anyone who works here absolutely love it. Such an amazing work environment knowing that you have job security, a decent hourly pay and people around you who genuinely don't hate being at their job. You enjoy making customer days and you decide how great shift will become. Hardest part of the job? Not eating the donuts.

I loved this job but everyone has to grow up and you must keep moving forward. If you're reading this deciding whether to apply there, I highly recommend you do not miss out on this amazing opportunity.

A typical day at work would involve random bursts of customers and quick responses to these customers. Making coffee and selling doughnuts as well as trying new doughnuts that may have come in. I learned that it is important to get along with your co-workers to be able to work in an environment that you will enjoy. My co-workers are great and that is the reason why I am still at Krispy Kreme. The most enjoyable part of my job is that I was entered into a Krispy Kreme Coffee Competition and I was able to win the comp and represent Australia when the World Barista Championships were held in Mexico.
