My day starts at 2.10 pm, and finishes at 10.30 pm, we have 4 breaks 20min 10 min 35 min and 20 min. My day at work consists of labelling product for the supermarkets our main client being woolworths we price many products rangiing from turkey products to breast fillets, drumsticks and wings just to name a few, which go across our machines which labels and prices every individual tray, we have 2 operators per machine one to feed the product and the other to pack and then stack onto a pallet,   I use to be a leading hand, but just recently stepped down and now i am a machine operator. Over the years working for this company I have learned many skills whilst being a leading hand. I have gained time management, basic computer skills, dealing with 30+staff. I am an experienced scanner with knowledge of Bpecs and Pickman.  I have basic maintenance skills having to fix  8 machines to keep production moving. I have learned how to work under pressure and stress when short staffed. My co-workers are a good lot of people to work with, easy going and hard workers as it is a very fast paced environment, and I get along with majority of the crew even as a machine operator. Management do the best they can with them been under pressure to meet deadlines and productivity been at the highest of standards as we are now owned by TPG and woolworths are our main clients. The hardest part of the job was keeping stress levels to a minimun and coping with staff that had personal issues and trying to run a room full of 30+ staff, and keeping management happy. The most enjoyable part of the job for me now as a machine operator,  would be no more stress Im not not splitting myself in 3 for anyone any more, and I always look forward to seeing my fellow co-workers as they are a great bunch of people to work with,  at this stage in my life I would like a career change.

A typical day would be answering phone calls, following up on queries, advising customers of issues, outstanding debt. Negotiating with customers repayment plans. Advising Sales/Head Office of any issues with customer accounts which I might have to place on hold.
Mark off all banking against customer accounts and follow up people who have not paid. Process banking.
Sort through approx 1,000 invoices to make sure they all have proof of delivery, correct pricing. Cross check against run sheets, follow up any discrepancies.
Provide reception relief, answering all incoming calls and re-direct calls to correct person. Meet visitors to site and make sure induction records are up to date.
Process all reworks within the plant.  Liase with qualtity assurance and process all stock destroys. Liase with outside storage on stock take differences.  Process cycle count differences.

Rotations throughout your shift so you don’t get bored. Lots of experience if you’ve never worked in a factory. 
Management is very poor and don’t take time to listen to you which leads to a lot of confusion, especially when other workers who’ve been there a long time tell you what to do. Leading hands are very numbers driven and make you feel inadequate if you don’t meet them.  Easy to misunderstand each other when English isn’t understood well. 
General friendliness if you are as well, you get what you give. Could be fun but because you have to be focused on meeting numbers there’s little time for that. 
Physically demanding, no need for gym visits. 
Casual at first with no guarantee of continuous 5 day work week. 

I have worked at Inghams Hoxton Park for the last 24 years. It has been a challenging job as I am currently a team Leader . It has provided me with managing a section if 20 and more people, i have had to meet deadlines. It has taught me how to work as a team. I really enjoyed working in a very friendly enviroment.The quality of the food was my number one priority.My fellow workers were nice and always treated each other with respect. The hardest part of the job is when you have trouble with the machine and your on a deadline to get the order out. Working at Inghams has made me a stronger person who enjoys any challenge that is given to me. I ama a enthusatic person. and am always willing to learn . The sadiest thing is after 24 years being there Inghams Hoxton Park will be closing 3rd May 2013. I will be made redantant.

depending on what shift u were on that week determined what u would mostly be doing. morning shift required the work of, loading delivery trucks. order picking.forklift driving. cleaning, general warehouse duties. as for the afternoon shift, u would mostly just be order picking and forklift driving, having at worked at inghams, i have had the abilty to use an rf scanner, tight access forklift driving, and a fast pace of order picking. most of the employees at inghams all get along, made some long term friends in such little time. the workers make you feel welcomed and comftable when joining the team. hardest part of the job was for me starting early on the day shift. the most enjoyable part of the job was order picking and driving forklifts

This was a great work place to work for the staff, Management and Customers we contacted on a daily basis. During my time with Inghams I had started in Payroll, then Procurement the the last position was in Sales the position of Procurement and Sales I was trained for these positions which I enjoyed working in these areas the staff were great to work with.

Some customers that phoned were either irate and we had to make sure they were satisfied with the outcome of their call.

The most enjoyable time is when customers phoned to complement Inghams or myself in the satisfaction of either the product purchased or the way we handled their problem and the manner we spoke to them.

Was a great place to work , friendly co- workers, mostly kiwis and Asian people. Hard to become permanent worker, but lots of overtime and good supervisors. Just not flexible with changing departments. If your put in a certain job first up even if leading hands can see your not a good fit , they’d rather sack you than give you a go in a diff dept. Considering there lucky if 2 out of every 10 people stay in the job, and always looking for process workers. Not a very flexible workplace. But loved my time there and if I had of had the chance to stay would still be there now. 4 breaks a day. Great lunchroom. Lots of overtime if wanted.

We usually got compensated when we help other area (rehanging, live bird area, etc). The amount of compensation follows the area we help (e.g if we help rehanging area, then we got extra $1 for each hour we work). 

Please remember that every position poses certain degree of hazard (i.e. you have to hang frozen chicken for 7.5 hours on rehanging, exposed to poultry dust & manure for long period of time on live bird area).

But recently the upper management is becoming greedier. We're no longer receiving compensation for that. Looks like they trying to cut operational cost as much as possible.

Can't wait to watch increase in turnover & decrease of productivity bcs they chose to hire A LOT of new people instead of retaining their own loyal employee.

Once I started didn't take me long to learn and do what I had to do being the smallest in the crew. Loved working there because in time I was smashing out guys who had been there for yrs and receiving high remarks from high bosses. Learnt how to use and hold the hose properly and how to clean and scrub and also how to operate the machines. Management was out standing. There was no discrimination acts what soever everyone got along. The hardest thing about the job I would say was having your arms in the air all night and constantly moving around with a very long and heavy hose and carrying other things required for the job such as ladders, chemical bottles, steps and everything else required. The most enjoyable part about the job was the pay.

My co-workers and i would walk in at 6:50am and get dressed in uniform then goto into a temperature controlled room around 6-7 degree. Fully equip with PPE  we would either go on to package turkey or process the meat. 

Alot of the time i would get independent jobs such as the store room, ban saw, inventory i believe its because i was reliable with my quality of work

the people where nice and probably the favorite part about working here. Everyone was a little team and it was enjoyable to walk in the door.

the worst part was working in the abattoir side, i struggled to do this, i could easily clean the birds but executing was different for me as i wasnt comfortable taking lives.
