Holy Cross School, Trinity Park

Formally opened in 1987, Holy Cross School is an integral component of the Northern Beaches Parish of Cairns. The Holy Cross School Charism - RELATIONSHIPS, COMMUNITY, SERVICE and STEWARDSHIP - referred to as ‘The Holy Cross Way', is embedded in all facets of school life, and lived, modelled, and articulated by every member of the school community.

Grounded in a reputation of innovation, Holy Cross School introduced internationally acclaimed Walker Learning in 2017. An Australian based total and holistic pedagogy, Walker Learning is an intentional teaching and learning approach for primary aged children. Through hands-on creative exploration and investigation, Walker Learning enables staff to craft the unique balance between students as active participants in their learning, and explicit instruction driven by the teachers.

As Learners in a digital world, Holy Cross School embraces personalised self-driven ‘flip’ learning platforms. Through the provision of one-to-one devices for all students in Years 3 to 6, and shared devices readily available in the lower years, every child has access to a variety of teaching and learning environments to ensure equitable access for all regardless of their entry point.

Holy Cross School lives and breathes its Catholic identity as a place of welcoming and belonging for all. With two teams of highly skilled School Officers (Team Wellbeing and Team Learning) teachers pride themselves on being able to offer an authentic wholly inclusive curriculum ensuring every child can meet their full potential in all facets of their schooling. Culturally diverse, students enjoy a rich tapestry of languages, life experiences and cultural histories. A team of Specialist staff (Teacher Librarian, HPE Teacher, Music Dance and Drama Teacher, STEM Teacher, Enrichment Teacher, Indigenous Liaison Officer, Accredited Dyslexia Teacher and three Inclusion Support Teachers) ensure multiple opportunities are readily available to guarantee every student finds their ‘spark’ prior to graduation in Year 6, enabling them to be the best version of themselves into High School and beyond.

Purpose of the Role

At Holy Cross School, student diversity is valued, and inclusive practices are fundamental to the ethos of Catholic schools. The Teacher (Inclusion – Highly Individualised Planning) works within whole-school initiatives to address the diverse needs of students with extensive needs through a culture of inclusiveness, focusing on the holistic growth and development of each student. The Teacher (Inclusion – Highly Individualised Planning) contributes to the quality of educational outcomes of students with extensive needs enrolled at Holy Cross School.

As the Teacher (Inclusion – Highly Individualised Planning) you will:

Plan, prepare and deliver effective learning and teaching programs.
Build the capacity of support staff to deliver effective learning and teaching programs.
Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive classroom, tutorial rooms and sensory garden.

The Teacher (Inclusion – Highly Individualised Planning) also fulfils the following roles:

Works closely with the Leader of Wellbeing to implement teaching and learning strategies and programs that identify and respond to the individual engagement, social and emotional needs of the students.
Works closely with the Leader of Teaching and the Leader of Learning to implement teaching and learning strategies and programs that identify and respond to the individual curriculum needs of students.
Liaise with visiting specialists, including therapists and Inclusive Education Teachers.
Communicates with parents as key partners in the educational outcomes of students.
Communicates regularly with mainstream teachers to provide assistance in supporting students with diverse learning needs.
Communicates regularly with support staff.
