Rainbow Fresh Farming PTY LTD (Rainbow Fresh), located in Lewiston, South Australia 5501 is a family-owned business that grows, harvests, processes and packs fresh leafy green salad products. The business supplies locally grown produce to South Australian and surrounding markets and requires strong quality assurance systems across farming, harvesting, processing, packing and dispatch operations.
Position Description
Rainbow Fresh is seeking a full time Primary Products Quality Assurance Officer to develop, implement, monitor and support quality assurance procedures across its fresh produce operations. The role will focus on ensuring that leafy green vegetables and salad products meet required quality, hygiene, food safety and customer standards from paddock to packed product.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Primary Products Quality Assurance Officer will be responsible for:
- Conducting routine product inspections, including checks for quality, size, freshness, damage, foreign matter and presentation standards.
- Developing, implementing, auditing and monitoring quality assurance procedures across growing, harvesting, processing, packing and storage operations.
- Monitoring hygiene and food safety standards in packing areas, storage facilities, equipment, work areas and transport vehicles.
- Inspecting fresh produce to identify quality issues, defects, contamination risks or non-compliance with product specifications.
- Testing and sampling fresh produce for quality, size, freshness, purity, contamination risk and compliance with internal, customer, industry and regulatory standards.
- Maintaining quality assurance records, inspection reports, non-conformance reports and corrective action documentation.
- Advising production and farm staff on product quality, grading, hygiene, packing and handling requirements.
- Assisting with internal and external audits and ensuring compliance with applicable food safety, customer, industry, government and regulatory quality standards.
- Investigating quality issues and supporting corrective actions to reduce waste, improve product consistency and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Ensuring harvested and packed produce is handled, stored and dispatched in accordance with quality and food safety requirements.
- Monitoring traceability, batch records and quality assurance documentation to support product recalls, customer audits and regulatory compliance where required.
Required Skills and Experience
Applicants should have:
- Formal qualifications with at least 1 year of demonstrated work experience Or 3 years of work experience if no formal qualification is held.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures in a food production, packing or primary production environment.
- Ability to inspect and assess fresh produce against quality and customer specifications.
- Understanding of hygiene, food safety and traceability requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
- Ability to communicate quality requirements to farm, production and packing staff.
- Relevant qualifications in agriculture, food science, quality assurance or a related field are desirable.
