Analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven experience in questioning current processes and looking for opportunities to improve and redesign current systems and processes

Experience and understanding of whole of government & department policies including government financial framework and PGPA Act.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
Confident in using, and the ability to understand Financial Management Information systems
Demonstrated experience in management and/or financial accounting in a government or commercial setting
Ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines
Emotional maturity, resilience, and patience to deal with diversity within the workplace, and
An intermediate to advanced Excel and Microsoft Office suite user including the use of AI as a support tool.

What you will do

The key duties of the position include:

Assistant Finance Managers manage the delivery of effective, responsive and consistent financial services to our client division(s) to support the best use of government resources. As an Assistant Manager at the Executive Level 1 in the Finance Business Partner section, you will be responsible for:

Actively partnering with key stakeholders (Senior Executives and Managers) to gain an understanding of their business, and facilitate cooperation, trust and credibility.
Developing and coordinating budgets and forecasts based on operational needs of divisions.
Preparing and presenting timely financial reports, with meaningful analysis that speaks to performance, key risks and opportunities.
Managing and supporting staff in the delivery of professional, high quality, timely and customer focussed financial services.
Contributing to process improvement activities to support the consistent and efficient delivery of corporate services.
Delivery of other financial services as directed.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
