Primary objective
As a member of the school leadership team of Yuendumu School, provide innovative leadership and management to
implement the Learning in Country (LinC) Program to achieve optimal educational outcomes for Yuendumu School students.
Context statement
Yuendumu School is in the community of Yuendumu, 300 km northwest of Alice Springs. The school operates across two
adjacent sites which include a Child and Family Centre (CFC) providing education and care services for young children and
their families from birth to school age; as well as primary schooling for students from Preschool to Year 6, and Secondary
schooling for students from Years 7 – 12. The school works in partnership with Warlpiri elders, the community of Yuendumu
and a wide range of stakeholders to implement teaching and learning using bilingual approaches and Warlpiri knowledge,
language and culture as a cornerstone for achieving, engagement, wellbeing and learning.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Collaborate with Warlpiri staff, elders and families to co-construct effective Warlpiri cultural learning programs delivered
via regular LinC trips.
2. Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the school LinC program across the school.
3. Guide teaching teams in planning, implementing, assessing and reporting for the LinC program, using the NT Indigenous
Languages and Culture Curriculum, by collaboratively planning to improve student outcomes.
4. Apply coaching principles and practices by working with teaching teams in the development of whole school approaches
to using data and sound pedagogy in classrooms associated with the LinC program.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Successful experience as an accomplished teacher of learners who speak English as an additional language, including
proven ability to provide high level coaching and / or mentoring around teaching and learning to both Aboriginal and
non-Aboriginal staff.
2. Successful experience in leadership, leading and implementing whole school approaches, change management and
developing successful partnerships with key stakeholders.
3. Demonstrated successful experience in the implementation of the Australian curriculum, assessment, moderation,
reporting procedures and data analysis in line with whole school approaches, including the oversight of data
management systems.
4. Demonstrated understanding of cultural awareness and proven ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people.
Desirable
1. Experience in Aboriginal pedagogies and teaching in remote Aboriginal communities.
