PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position is located in Darwin, Australia and is for the duration of approximately 3 months beginning mid-June.
The Gomaco Paver Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and precise operation of a Gomaco GP3 slipform paving machine for concrete paving projects. This role includes machine setup, alignment, grade control, daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination with the paving crew to ensure high‑quality concrete placement that meets project specifications.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
· Operate GP3 Paver — Run the Gomaco GP3 slipform paver to place concrete Aircraft Parking Apron at RAAF Base Darwin Australia.
· Machine Setup & Calibration — Work with the Trimble 3D guidance systems, set mold configurations, adjust vibrators, and ensure proper grade and slope control.
· Quality Control Monitoring — Monitor concrete slump, edge quality, consolidation, thickness, and surface finish during paving operations.
· Daily Maintenance — Perform or coordinate with others for lubrication, fluid checks, cleaning, bolt tightening, and minor repairs to keep the machine in optimal condition.
· Crew Coordination — Work closely with the foreman, concrete delivery team, finishers, and survey crew to maintain production flow.
· Safety Compliance — Follow OSHA, company, and project‑specific safety protocols at all times.
· Documentation — Complete daily equipment logs, maintenance reports, and production notes.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE
· Minimum 5 years operating GOMACO slipform paving equipment preferably Gomaco GP3 or similar models (GP2400, GP2600, GP4) on heavy highway or airfield concrete paving projects.
· Strong understanding of 3D machine‑control systems Trimble.
· Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, plans, and paving specifications.
· Ability to work long hours in outdoor construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with similar concrete paving projects (DOT, municipal, or commercial).
· Knowledge of concrete mix behavior, slump control, and curing requirements.
- Experience with 3D guidance systems, FAA and or DOD paving specifications, and concrete paving quality standards preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Physically, workers must be able to; climb and maintain body balance; use hands and arms fully; stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or crouch for long periods; and see well (either naturally or with correction). Ability to lift 50+ lbs
· Ability to climb onto equipment and work on elevated platforms
· Ability to stand/walk for extended periods
· Tolerance for heat, cold, dust, and noisy environments
Pay: $65.00 – $70.00 per hour
