RangerWreck – Newcastle / Whitebridge/ Thornton Area, NSW
RangerWreck is a growing specialist Ford Ranger dismantling and parts business supplying quality used parts to customers throughout Australia.
We are looking for a practical, reliable and self-motivated person to join us as a Casual Automotive Wrecker / Vehicle Dismantler & Parts Assistant.
The position will initially be approximately one to two days per week, with the possibility of additional work as the business continues to grow.
The Role.
This is a hands-on position dismantling Ford Rangers, identifying the parts removed and preparing those parts for sale.
Major drivetrain components including engines, transmissions and differentials are removed separately by our mechanic. You will primarily be responsible for dismantling the remainder of the vehicle and recovering saleable components carefully and efficiently.
Typical duties include:
- Removing body panels, doors, lights and exterior components
- Removing seats, trims, consoles and other interior components
- Removing suspension, steering, electrical and other mechanical components
- Safely raising and lowering vehicles using workshop hoists
- Draining and handling vehicle fluids where required
- Preventing, containing and cleaning up oil, coolant and other fluid spills
- Identifying removed parts and assessing their condition
- Keeping bolts, clips, brackets and associated components organised
- Entering removed parts accurately into our computer-based inventory system
- Recording part descriptions, vehicle details and storage locations
- Moving and storing dismantled parts appropriately
- Maintaining a safe, clean and organised work area
- Occasional local parts deliveries or transport between sites using a company vehicle, if required
What We're Looking For.
You do not need to be a qualified mechanic, but you must have genuine hands-on experience working on vehicles and be comfortable carrying out allocated work independently.
You will need:
- Good practical automotive or mechanical knowledge
- Your own suitable automotive hand tools
- Experience and confidence using common automotive hand and power tools
- The ability to identify common vehicle components
- The ability to dismantle vehicles carefully without unnecessarily damaging saleable parts
- A sound understanding of workshop and vehicle safety
- Willingness to comply with our smoke-free workplace policy. Smoking and vaping are not permitted in workshop or vehicle dismantling areas or in company vehicles.
- Experience using a vehicle hoist, or sufficient automotive experience to be trained and assessed in its safe use
- An understanding of the safe handling of oils, coolant and other automotive fluids, including spill prevention and clean-up
- Adequate reading, writing and numeracy skills
- Good attention to detail and the ability to accurately record part and vehicle information
- The ability to follow written work instructions and dismantling lists
- Reliability and the ability to organise your work and remain productive without constant supervision
- Good judgement and the willingness to stop and ask when unsure rather than guess
- The ability to safely perform the inherent physical requirements of the position
- A current Australian driver's licence
Computer Skills.
Basic PC skills are required.
You should be comfortable using a Windows computer, keyboard and mouse, including:
- Sending and receiving email
- Entering information into computer forms
- Working with files and folders
- Saving and locating files and photos
- Basic printing and similar everyday PC tasks
You do not need experience with our particular software. Training will be provided on our inventory system.
Work Locations & Transport.
RangerWreck operates from multiple sites across the Newcastle area. Initially, you will be working at our Whitebridge location, although we also have vehicles at Thornton and the work location may vary depending on where vehicles are being dismantled.
Applicants must have reliable transport to attend the nominated work location for each shift.
Details of the work location will be provided in advance.
The role may in future include occasional local parts deliveries or transport between sites using a company vehicle that can be driven on a standard car licence.
Experience.
Previous experience in vehicle dismantling, automotive mechanical work, automotive repair, panel work, 4WDs, machinery or another hands-on mechanical field would be well regarded.
Formal automotive qualifications are not required.
For this position, practical ability, reliability, care, accuracy and common sense are more important to us than formal qualifications.
Employment & Hours.
This is a casual position, initially expected to be approximately one to two days per week.
There may be an opportunity for additional days as RangerWreck continues to grow.
Hours and days may vary depending on operational requirements and will be arranged with the successful applicant.
Pay will be in accordance with the applicable modern award and classification, including casual loading.
