The South Melbourne Business Association is seeking an energetic, organised and proactive Precinct Coordinator to support the promotion, activation and ongoing success of the South Melbourne precinct.
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside a passionate Committee of local business leaders and play a hands-on role in delivering events, marketing campaigns, business engagement initiatives and precinct projects that support local businesses and strengthen the Experience South Melbourne brand.
ABOUT US
The South Melbourne Business Association represents businesses throughout the South Melbourne precinct, including Clarendon Street, Coventry Street and surrounding areas.
Through the Experience South Melbourne brand, we promote South Melbourne as a destination to visit, shop, dine, work and do business.
We deliver marketing campaigns, networking opportunities, community initiatives, beautification projects, business support programs and major events, including the highly successful South Melbourne Porsche & Coffee Festival.
Following the introduction of our Special Rate and Charge Scheme, we are entering an exciting new phase and are seeking the right person to help bring our plans to life.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the SMBA President and Committee, the Precinct Coordinator will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the Association.
This is a varied and rewarding role combining event coordination, marketing, trader engagement, communications, financial administration and governance support.
No two days are the same. One day you may be planning a precinct activation, the next preparing a newsletter, meeting with local traders, coordinating social media content, preparing Committee papers or assisting with the delivery of a major event.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Coordinate precinct activations, events and campaigns that drive visitation and support local businesses
· Assist with the planning and delivery of major events, including the South Melbourne Porsche & Coffee Festival
· Support seasonal activations, promotions and networking initiatives
· Coordinate newsletters, email marketing and trader communications
· Manage social media channels, website content and promotional activities
· Assist with media, marketing campaigns and content creation
· Trader Engagement & Business Support
· Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses
· Act as a key point of contact for trader enquiries and precinct initiatives
· Support networking opportunities and business engagement activities
· Prepare Committee agendas, papers and minutes
· Coordinate AGM administration and communications
· Undertake bookkeeping and financial administration using Xero
· Prepare monthly financial and budget performance reports
· Maintain Association databases, records and operational systems
· Assist with grants, sponsorships and reporting requirements
ABOUT YOU
You are organised, self-motivated and enjoy working with people.
You are equally comfortable coordinating an event, preparing a Committee agenda, producing a social media post, maintaining financial records or visiting local businesses.
You will ideally have experience in:
· Events and community engagement
· Marketing and communications
· Business development or association management
· Bookkeeping and financial administration
· Xero or similar accounting software
· Governance and Committee support
Most importantly, you will bring:
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Strong organisational and project management capability
· Initiative, energy and a solutions-focused mindset
· Confidence engaging with businesses and stakeholders
· Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
· A genuine passion for supporting local businesses and vibrant communities
