The Provisional Fellow position in Paediatric Rheumatology is available at Sydney Children's Hospitals Network for the 2027 Clinical Year, from 01 February 2027 to 06 February 2028.
The primary role of the Provisional Fellow in Paediatric Rheumatology is the provision of care for patients and families in both inpatient and outpatient settings, at a level of skill and autonomy consistent with Advanced Training. The role includes initial assessment of children, rational use of investigations, ongoing management and monitoring progress, and organising timely discharge and appropriate follow up.
The Provisional Fellow is a senior member of the Junior Medical Staff within a clinical team. In matters relating directly to patient care, the Provisional Fellow is responsible to the Specialist in charge of the patient’s care. The Provisional Fellow is responsible for supervision and teaching of Junior Medical Staff on their clinical team, including medical students. The Provisional Fellow is a role model for Junior Medical Staff in relation to professional conduct, clinical acumen and communication with patients, families and colleagues (including health professionals and other staff working in hospital and outpatient settings).
The Provisional Fellow will be required to work normal hours, as appropriate for the particular clinical service; this may include shift work. The Provisional Fellow will also be required to work reasonable rostered overtime hours as required by the clinical service; this includes being available for patient handover and on-call duties in accordance with Public Health Medical Officers (State) Award. As this is a position is across The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, the Provisional Fellow will be required to work across Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, and The Children's Hospital at Westmead, and may also be asked to attend regional or metropolitan outreach clinics from time to time.

Selection Criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as an Advanced Trainee or equivalent with at least 6 months recent experience in Rheumatology or an allied subspecialty such as Allergy and Immunology preferable.
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development. This includes demonstrated ability to teach and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff. Please provide an example.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and a commitment to actively contribute to clinical team. Please provide an example.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills and ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks. Please provide an example.
- Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example.
- Demonstrated contribution to quality improvement, hospital services / committees and research. Please provide an example.
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support qualifications or equivalent. Please provide details and upload certification.
